HARMSTON’S CIRCUS.
This famous Trans-Atlantic big show spreads its mammoth canvas on the reclaimed Land, near the Freezing Company’s works, on Saturday, February 18, for a short season. An army of workmen, under the able supervision of Col. Hicks, has been several days clearing the spot, and Manager Love, who arrived on Saturday, has left satisfied that everything will be ready for the great opening. The Harmston Show will be a revelation to all lovers of equestrianism, for the artists engaged are all of that brilliant order that delights the visitors to this class of amusement. The aim of the circus is to amuse, and Manager Love has succeeded in gathering together a company which the Southern press claims to be superior to any that has yet visited New Zealand, and the show to be one that presents more variety in every department than all the combined circus entertainments put together. The stud of Arab horses are said to be the finest ever seen in the colonies. The ladies and gentlemen are performers of the highest merit, while the animal department contains all the jungle celebrities, including “ Duke,” a royal Bengal tiger, who boasts of being the largest ever seen in captivity, and will be performed nightly by Herr Leopold Lentz, the great animal trainer. Matinees will be given every Wednesday and Saturday, to enable those who cannot visit the evening performance to attend, and the full evening programme will be performed. Arrangements have been made for onehunga and suburban trams.
