WIRE.
March 3.
The secretary of the Waipawa Racing Club has received official notice that a totalisator’ permit will be granted to his Club for the May meeting. A few words on the training gallops at Napier Park will be of interest. On Saturday morning the first to work here was Kingsman and Leontini. Both went well in a mile and a half gallop, the Tasman horse having a bit the best of the go. Q.ueensborough went twice round at a good strong bat,'Waterlily being associated with her for the first six furlongs. Kauri Gum and Hilda it. did good strong work, both galloping and looking well. J. Griffiths, late of Waipawa and Kaikora, is assisting Cuneen in his supervision of this pair, and Mountaineer, the half-brother to Hilda 11. Morag and Moonraker both did solid half pace work. Maid Marion, in company with a two-year-old Forester filly, spur* ed half a mile, the youngster moving in a very taking style. Hillstone did once round on his own at top with a light weight up. Mountaineer did long slowwork. Zaccho, who has returned from Palmerston North, did not put in an appearance. On Mon-, day morning Free Lance put in a serviceable gallop, and the horses I have mentioned before put in about the same amount of work. Queensborough I did not see work, but I surmise that, in view of the acceptances for the Hawke’s Bay Cup, the question had been put to her earlier in the morning. ..... In consequence of the absence at Wanganui of several of the Hastings trainers with their charges there has not been much to chronicle in the way of work from Hastings. Goosander has
gone wrong and will be treated to a spell. Merganser, who it was thought would stand up to a preparation, is also in Q.ueer-street.
