Gipsy Grand yoes to Hawke's Bay Strathbraan, Strikes the Bookmakers — Horne Sentenced to Four Years.
[by
WIRE.
March 3. Gipsy Grand and Belle Clair leave for Hawke’s Bay to-morrow. W. Pine rides the former in his engagements. Both horses are well. Salute and Cuirassina have gone to Wellington, the former being purchased by a patron of W. Davies’ stable. Cuirassina is leased on a purchasing clause, and will be in the hands of the same trainer. Bookmakers in Dunedin paid out a thousand pounds over Strathbraan’s Manawatu victory, which is another knock for them. Entries for our Anniversary Meeting are confined to local horses, and does not promise to furnish a great deal of sport. The trots, however, are well patronised in nominations and will be the chief attraction. F. F. Horne, recently arrested for embezzlement to the tune of £4,000, was sentenced to four years on Monday. For several years past he was a big backer of horses, and associated with others in the ownership of various horses, mostly trotters.
