TAKAPUNA J.C. SUMMER MEETING

The above meeting opened at North Shore yesterday in the presence of a large number of spectators, who speculated freely. The principal race, the Takapuna Cup, gave rise to a grand struggle between Fabulist, Eve, and St. Clements, and after a desperate fight the Great Northern Derby winner got home in good time. Fabulist appeared to hang a little in the straight, and his rider complained after the race that Eve’s rider repeatedly struck Fabulist across the face. In the Hurdles, Bombardier ran very indifferently, but those who allow that run to prejudice his chance in Saturday’s Steeplechase may live to regret it.
