AUCKLAND RACING CLUB SUMMER CARNIVAL. NOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS. The A.R.C. Summer Meeting will be continued next Wednesday, and concluded the day following. Mr Evett’s handicaps, which will be found in another column, were due to appear at 9 p.m. last night, but they were not declared until an hour and a half later. If handicaps are timed to appear at a certain hour, there is no reason why owners should sit on the kerbstones in Durham Street for an hour and a half longer. From the time Thursday’s races copcluded up to the hour named for the appearance of the weights, twentyseven hours elapsed, surely quite long enough for the weights to be made in. There was only time last night for a hurried glance at Mr Evett’s work, my impressions of which are as follows : — In the Racing Club Handicap, St; Hippo with all his 9.9 will be hard to beat, and Quiltiri (at 7.7) is well in. Folly (7.5) is to my mind as good a thing as there is in this handicap. Folly and St. Hippo look the likeliest pair. In the New Year’s Hurdle Race, Dante (with 11.10) is risen 81b, but he has a great chance on his run of Thursday. The next best is,‘l think, Pansy. Dante and Pansy are my pair. In the Pony Race Talisman has very rightly been jumped considerably, but with a furlong shorter to go I should not like to say he cannot win again. The three I have most liking for are - , ; Arquebus, Romp, and Fidget. The Glasgow Handicap of seven. furlongs does not look an easy race to pick. St. Laura is not on 1 the ground, otherwise I would pick her. Doris at 8.8 must -take a lot of beating.' There is no Musketry to upset her here, so that whatever beats her should win. Quiltiri, 8.0, has a chance, and Kingsman, if he would run true, also stands a chance. ■ Eve is the best of the lightweights. For two I like Doris and Quiltiri. The five furlong Midsummer Handicap is Armilia’s race, if I am any judge. On his Foal Stakes win, St. Paul is set to give her half a stone, which order, I venture to think, he cannot execute. Neither can St. Ouida give her 51bs. She should beat Defiance and Epaulet at level weights, but Daring with a 101 b pull of the weights has got a fail’ chance. The rest are not to my liking. Armilla and Daring should decide matters between them. The County Handicap, 6 furlongs, looks a fair thing for Wright’s stable, for it has Doris, Forma, and Acone engaged, and they are all clinkers over three-quarters of a mile. Wright’s Best should do the trick. The Maiden Handicap, one mile, will take a lot of picking. The twenty-four horses entered are an evenly-weighted lot •of mullock, and if Repeater is in form he is as good as anything handicapped. This is a race you want acceptances before trying to pick it, and then you would require a lot of luck. For a wild shot in the dark, I will take , Repeater and Frontignac. Acceptances close by 9 p.m. next Monday.
