WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB.

The Report r and balance-sheet of the above club, presented at the annual meeting last Thursday read as follows :— “ In submitting the fifth annual report and balance sheet your stewards regret that, owing to the wet weather experienced at both the Summer and Autumn Meetings (especially at the latter), they are unable,to give such a favourabl'eraecount of. the year’s transactions as they .would like to do. However, the Club is in good condition,

and given fine weather next year, should more than regain any leeway made this year. Reference to the statement of receipts and expenditure for the Summer and Autumn Meetings will show that the approximate surplus from the Summer Meeting was £292 5s 9d, and from the Autumn Meeting £66 7s 2d. The sum of £515 14s 7d has been expended in permanent improvements. The gross return from the totalisator for 1894 was £1341 6s 6d ; this year it is £1350 15s, which shows that no falling off has occurred in this direction.- The privileges realised £97 Ils 3d less this year than last, which is due to the restrictions put upon the publican’s booth by the Licensing Committee, and also perhaps to the fact that the gates were free to all horses and vehicles. There are 197 members, all of whom have paid up their subscriptions, and the only outstanding asset is the sum of £lO 10s, due by one of the privilege holders. During the year 46 training permits were issued, as against 36 last year. The new training track is almost completed, and when finished should prove a source of revenue to the Club. It will be necessary, however, to erect some 70 chains of fencing, to divide the training track from the centre of the course. The Easter flood (although an exceptionally heavy one) did no damage to the protected part of the river bank, but at s part hitherto untouched and unprotected it did considerable damage, necessitating an expenditure of £4l 19s 9d. The bank is now practically protected from end to end and if not neglected should only require a small outlay from time to time to keep it.secure. A vote of thanks is due by the Club at this meeting to all who made donations towards the training track and funds of the Club, but especially to Messrs. Bidwell Bros, for giving and carting Willows for the river bank, and to Mr F. Pearce for the gift of a set of tripod harrows for the course. Your stewards and officials have w-orked well together and never shirked their duty. Meetings have been held regularly on the first Saturday in each month, and no meeting has ever been adjourned for want of a quorum. You will be asked, as usual, to appoint judge, starter, clerk of the scales, clerk of the course, treasurer, stewards, and auditors for the coming year, also to fix the amount to be given in stakes, and the number of days of meetings.”
