YACHTING.
The rumour of a being built, which I mentioned a short time since, has resolved itself into an absolute fact, and the Messrs. Bailey Bros, have already got her well under way. As I before stated, she is to be a frame boat, built of one very light skin, with a shallow draught of hull, a deep bulb keel, and for; her rating will be a good length on the waterline. The new boat is for an Auckland syndicate, and is to, be ready for the Ponsonby Regatta. Mr. R. Masefield has been building a 20ft. open boat, which I suppose will compete in the coming regattas. ’ , The Elaine (1-rater) had hard luck in not winning her first race at Napier. The wind was very light and flukey, and she. retired before the race was finished. Napier papers say she is too lightly canrased, but when her crew gets used to the run of her I think this will be all right. I hear the Viking is going to Wellington for the Championship Regatta. If so, she should have no difficulty in annexing the £lOO prize for the first-class yacht race. With good weather it will also be a pleasant trip down there. A fine westerly breeze on Saturday afternoon suited the cruisers, and they were all away pretty early for their different destination?. 3he calm and wet weather on Sunday, however, somewhat spoiled their enjoyment. I wonder if any of the Auckland boats are going to Wellington to compete in the secondclass championship event. Perhaps the owners of the new 2.^-rater have intentions of doing so. She is the right class of boat for shipping from one regatta to another. The Ponsonby Regatta committee is pushing ahead with the arrangements for their annual event, and if energy has anything to do with it, it will be a great success. The Judges Bay i arty are very quiet. The Auckland Yacht Club ad- , vertised a meeting for last night, to elect delegates and to arrange for Club races.
