Ellerslie Training- Notes.
There was little doing on Monday at the track, and those horses which did show up were only sent at half-pace. On Tuesday all the work was done on the tan. Brown Alice and Van Dieman were sent six, and Stepfeldt and Campania five furlongs at top speed. Fright went round twice at a strong half-pace, and Fishmonger and Belmont galloped round twice and finished strong. Tingara did half-pace work, and Ingorina and Tulloch were sent twice round the track, the first round being at a good three-quarter pace. In the second round St. Kilda joined them and the trio slashed round at a ringing gallop, of which Tulloch had slightly the best. Marion was sent four furlongs at top speed, and Topsail, Adam and Lord Dunluce did half pace for two rounds, spurting home in the last two furlongs. Gay Deceiver did a good strong working gallop, and Lottie, Markinch, and Sunbeam were restricted to half work. Lockmoor and Haira went round steadily three times, and spurted the last three furlongs, and Hopeful Kate showed good condition by going twice round at top speed. Spectator and Jim did good working gallops. St. Hippo did a strong two-mile gallop. On Wednesday Brown Alice and Van Dieman cut out two rounds, the first slow and the second fast. Stepfeldt and Compania did slow work, and Fright, Lottie, Markinch and Sunbeam were given halfpace work. Tulloch, Ingorina and St. Kilda raced once round, and Fishmonger accompanied by Belmont did good half pacing. Gay Deceiver, Adam, Lord Dunluce and Tingara were all given slow work.
