The third match between Osterley and Mystery, the Australian trotters, was held at Richmond Park, Melbourne, on the 16th inst. The trot was a 3 mile course, and was won by Osterley by six lengths. Time, 7min jofsec. Mr Crozier’s Cup horses, Fulham and Vakeel, are, says ‘Freelance’ in the Melbourne Sportsman, going to carry a heap of South Australian money this time, and good judges from the other side assert that the sister colony has never sent over a better Melbourne Cup candidate than Vakeel. Rather a strong assertion this when one remembers The Assyrian in ’B2 and First Water the following year, though the son of Robinson Crusoe would, to my thinking, need to be better than either to win this coming Melbourne Cup with 8.11 in the addle.
