A New Theatrical Combination.
The Gourlay—Walton Co. opens at Abbott’s Opera House on Wednesday evening next, the 26th. Australian critics speak very favourably of ‘ Skipped by the Light of the Moon’—a sort of musical, farcical comedy written by G. R. Sims, whose name is a guarantee for crisp and witty writing. In this piece Miss Flora Hastings plays Millicent Croakle, a light and lively role, embroidered with songs and dances. This talented lady has a brilliant reputation as a burlesque and light-comedy actress, and is bound to play the mischief with all susceptible mashers. Mr John Gourlay’s name is too familiar to Auckland playgoers to require a preliminary flourish. He is the worthy son of a worthy father, who first introduced 1 Little Johnnie’ to an Auckland audience many years ago. Mr George Walton has never before visited Auckland, but brings with him a brilliant reputation as a burlesque, light-comedy, and pantomime actor. The venture opens most opportunely, and a prosperous fortnight’s season seems assured. Other good pieces in the Company’s will be produced in due course.
