Poverty Bay Turf Club’s Annual Meeting.

First Day—Tuesday, January io. The Poverty Bay Turf Club commenced their annual race meeting to-day in fine weather, and there was a fairly numerous attendance. Z'2,135 went through the totalisator. Results were as under: — First Hurdle Handicap of 60 sovs, one mile and a half. — Chester, 10.5, 1 • Engakuri, 9.0, 2: Caitiff, 10.3, 3. Won by: three lengths. Time, 3min 3sec, Dividend, £2 16s. Hack Hurdle Handicap ,of 10 soys., one mile.—Warragal 1, Onslow 2, Criminal 3. Won easily by two lengths. Dividend £2ll. Flying Handicap of 80 sovs., six furlongs.—Mr. W. Douglas’ b f Ua, by Mute —Waitiri, 3yrs, 7.10, 1 ; Loch Ness, sy rs « 9.3, 2; Albert, 6yrs, 6.10, 3. These were the only starters. Ua won easily by several lengths. Time, imin. Dividend £3 12s. M' iden Plate of 40 sovs., one mile. — Pekapu 1, Ormond 2, Dangar 3. Tell Tit was the only other starter. Pekapu won very easily. Time, imin. 49fsec. Dividend £2 4s. The Half-mile Scurry of 10 sovs. was won by. Jack, with Kaha second, and Freny third. Time, 51 3 ssec. Dividend Z 2 IIS * Turanga Stakes Handicap of 200 sovs., one mile and a half. —Mr. Clark’s Pani, 7.9, 1 ; Hon. Capt. Russell’s b m Huerfana, 7.3, 2 ; Mr. D. McKinnon’s br h Loch Ness 8.1 1, 3* Brigand 8.10, Scot Free 8.10, Kapua 7«°» an d Zanzibar 6.7 also ran. Zanzibar and Pani were first away, and led oast the stand in that order, with Brigand next. Going out of the straight Brigand ran into second place, Loch Ness last. At the back of the course Kapua went to the front, with Huerfana close up. Pani then made a forward move, and Huerfana took the lead. Coming into the straight Huerfana was leading, and Pani gradually catching her a grand race ensued, Pani just managing to squeeze home by a neck amidst great cheering. Time, 2min 42 1-5 sec. Dividend, £3 7s. County Stakes Handicap of 40 sovs, one mile—Pehapu 7*7» 1 » Zanzibar 8.9, 2 ; Dangar 6.7, 3. Four others started. Won by three lengths., Time, imin 48 2-5 sec. The Hack Flat Race of iosovs, 6 furlongs; was won by Retribution.
