Taranaki Jockey Club’s Summer Meeting.
(by telegraph from our own correspondent.) December 26. The Taranaki Jockey Club’s Summer meeting came off to-day in fine weather. There was a large attendance, and £2050 went through the totalisator. The various events resulted as follows : — Maiden Plate of 30 sovs, one mile and a quarter —Melas, 1 ; Mutiny, 2 ; Union Jack, 3. Time, 2min 17sec. Dividend, £l2. The Shorts Handicap went to Armour, with Mararoa second and Wizard third. Armour won by a head. Time, 52sec. Dividend, £1 19s.
Flying Handicap of 40 sovs, 6 furlongs Shela, 7.9, 1 ; Mutiny, 7.7, 2 ; Golden Lock, 7.0, 3. Time, 1 min 18 4-5 sec. Dividend, £l2 17 s. Hurdle Handicap of 40 sovs, about 1| miles—Bradshaw, 11.0, 1; Wizard, 9.0, 2 ; Nugget, - 9.7, 3. *11:3, Ibll at the second to last hurdle when leading. Time, 2min 30sec. Dividend, £2 19s. Summer Handicap of 85 sovs, one mile and a half—Melas, 7.8, 1; Sirius, 9.0, 2; Strike, 8.10, 3. Won easily. Time, 2min 50ses. Dividend, £1 18s. Ladies Purse of /25 sovs, one mile Melas, 11.0, 1 ; Cingalee, 10.7, 2 ; Mutiny, 11.0, 3. Time, Imin 51 4-5 sec. Dividend, £1 Bs. Welter Handicap—Wizard, 1; Nugget, 2; Armoury. 3. Won by a neck. Time, 1 min 51sec. Dividend, £4 Ils.
Farewell Handicap —Sirius, 1 ; Union Jack, 2 ; Mararoa, 3. Time, Imin 17 4-5 sec. Dividend, £2 17s. The three placed horses in this race finished on the post together, and great dissatisfaction was expressed at the judge’s verdict.
