HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB.
The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club will hold their customary Summer Meeting on Boxing Day, when an attractive programme of seven events will be got off. Mr Evett’s handicaps appeared on Tuesday. In the principal event, the Summer Handicap of 155sovs, one mile and a half, he has started with Rosefeldt at 8.10, but I prefer the next on the list, St Katherine at 7.11. St. Malo has shown much improved form of late, and therefore I regard him as very well in at 7.7. Ido not care for Kotuku at 11b less, but Huerfana must have a big chance at 7.4 if Captain Russell rely on her in preference to St. Katherine. Dreamland, 7.4, and Pearl Powder, 7.3, will find the distance beyond their tether, and those below them are but a moderate lot, the best of them being Free Lance, who with 610 has escaped a little more leniently than he deserved. Acceptances are not due till Tuesday, but in the meantime I select St. Katherine or Huerfana to win—whichever Capt. Russell pins his faith to on the day, and if either be beaten I think St Malo will be the nag to do it.
