SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.

The South Auckland Racing Club’s Summer Meeting commences to-morrow, on the usual course near Hamilton, and , will be continued on Saturday. Cheap ,excursion trains will rnm from Auckland this morning* and on Saturday, and as the various events have attracted good acceptances doubtless our South Waikato friends will have capital two days’ sport. To-morrow the curtain will be rung up with the Maiden Plate Handicap of 30

sovsi 7 furlongs, for which 13 have cried content. I stick to my selection of last week, Orini, to win, with Folly next best. There is only one defection from the Handicap Hurdles of 30S0VS, one mile and a half, Which leaves 10 in. Here, again, both my selections of last week are numbered among the “ contents,” so I shall once more give my vote for Scaltheen, with Daisy second. Considering the leniency with which the handicapper had treated Tulloch, I was surprised—and so were a good many other people—-to , see an acceptance of half-a-dozen for the principal event of the meeting—the South Auckland Cup of 115SOVS, one mile and three-quarters. As it is, only Pinfire and Loch Ness have dropped out. Mr. McKinnon’s horse was scratched immediately after the weights appeared, and Pinfire’s absence Heads to the conclusion that he is not “ standing up to the collar” in his Auckland Cup preparation. I can see nothing likely to beat Tulloch, who on paper stands out as one of the biggest morals possible. The Handicap Steeplechase of 4osovs.

1J miles, is the next item on the card, and 10 is “the main” for it. Hopeful Kate, 11.7, still heads the list, but I do not care for her chance, and Scaltheen may have a good deal taken out of him in the Hurdles. Of Weal’s pair Nero

and Tupara, I prefer Nero, and I hinted last week that I thought he would win, unless Yum Yum improved on the last form she showed us. Yum Yum has not been paid up for, however. I stick to .Nero to win, and Justice may prove the j best of the others. \ The Tradesmen’s Handicap pf 4osovs, one .mile and a quarter, has nine engaged, including Glaucus, 8.0, and Tul loch, 7.12, both of whom are left in the Cup. The winner of the Cup will incur a iplb penalty in this face, so it is -rather difficult to deal with, and furthermore, in addition to Tulloch, Williamson has Tit,

7.10, and Orini, 7.0, engaged. Presuming that Tulloch will incur a penalty by winning the Cup, I go for Tit and Glaucus to fight out the issue, and give the preference to Tit. If, however, Tit is not pulled out for this race she should be there or thereabouts in the Flying Handicap of 30S0VS, six furlongs, with 7.10 up, and here again Williamson seems to hold the key to the situation with either her or Orini. / Sandwiched in between these two last mentioned items is the Waikato Produce Stakes, for two-year-olds, which has attracted an acceptance of half a dozen. Annabel is the best known of the lot, and as she showed decent form at the Takapuna meeting by sticking to Captivity for a portion of the journey in which they were competitors, I shall Select her to win with the best of Mr. McKinnon’s — Dark Rose or Agate—as dangerous.
