TARANAKI SPORTING NOTES.
OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) New Plymouth, Sept 8. Foulshot, the son of Musket —Slander, paid us a visit on Monday and stayed till Wednesday. He is a fine-looking stallion, and his stock ought to be heard of in future. It is the owner’s intention to stand Foulshot three days a week in this district during the season. The other sires standing in this district are Cruiser, Vendor, Australian, and, I believe, The Bean. The pony Rodney (Flintlock —Day Dawn mare) will visit Auckland soon to compete in his-class, so l am given to understand. Good boys for racing stables are not procurable in this district. J. Russell.and Jervey George are both on the look-out for lads, but Up to date they have not been able to get their wants satisfied. These are two berths in which light horsemen would get a large number of mounts during the season. The Taranaki Jockey Club have issued their programme for their hack meeting on Boxing DayJ There are eight events on ths card, namely :—Handicap, i£ miles, 40 sovs.; Flying, 6 furlongs, 30 sovs. ; Welter, 1 mile, 30
sovs.; Hurdles, miles, 30 sovs. ; Maiden, 1 mile, 20 sovs. ; Pony handicaps of 10 sovs. and 15 sovs., 5 furlongsand 1 mile; and Final Handicap, 6 furlongs, 20 sovs. Mr. R. G. Pardy has been appointed handicapper for the meeting. The total amount of stakes is £1 95. The new Club at Stratford have not yet fixed on a date, but I hear that their meeting will not eventuate till Christmas or New Year, as they want to ring it in after the harvest.
