CRICKET.

Auckland v. ALPHA.-This match was commenced last Saturday, Alpha going first to the wickets. With the exception of Fitzpatrick, who/made 3 2,. not out, none of them reached double figures, and they were all dismissed for 68. Beale had a fine bowling analysis, getting five wickets for twelve runs. Auckland have so far lost three wickets for 75 runs. R. Neil (17) T. Neill (23), and Howlett (25, not out), played good cricket for their runs. Gordon v. St. Mary’s. — Alpha, batted first, and scored 72. Darby (20) played a good innings, while Dr. Egan and Lundon also batted well for 18 and 15 . Williams was in great form with the ball, getting five of St. Mary’s wickets for eight runs. On Gordon going in they made a bad start, losing four wickets for 40; but on Moresby and Fowke getting together, they put a different complexion on the game, and at call of time were still together, with the score at 106. Moresby, who has made 45, not out, played a dashing innings, but was lucky in being missed. Fowke played a really good innings, his 25, not out, being a better display than Moresby’s. ' ' Parnell v. United. -Parnell, who batted first, collapsed before the bowling of Stemson and* McPherson, and only succeeded in scoring 58. Lawson, who played a fine, free innings of 22, was the only one to reach double figures. Stemson secured five wickets for 13, and McPherson five for 44. United have so far scored 140 for six wickets. Yates played a fine innings of 38 ; McPherson batted well for 22 ; and Lynch, who played quite up to his old form, has got 43, not out. Gordon 11. v. Auckland 11. — Gordon scored 137, of which Mowbray made 39, Gilfillan 30, Bedlington 19, and Bell 15, while Auckland only scored 51. Mafi 16, Laxon 12, and Cuff 11. Ponsonby v. Wanderers. — Ponsonby, 33 (Pritchard 14). Wanderers, 62 (Donald 26, Whelan 15). Ponsonby in their second innings have lost four wickets for 67 runs. Educational Chambers v. Star. — Educational Chambers, 57 (Howard 34). Star, 104 (Jackson 15, Speight 21, Brookes 25, Pooley 12). Mount Roskill v. Belmont. — Mount Roskill, 69 (Froude 33). Belmont, 104 for six wickets (Morison 21, Speight 14, Thomas 17 not out, Hay 32 not out). Hay, a rather small cricketer, played a really fine innings, displaying better cricket than many seniors do. When he gets more strength he should make a really first-class man. Morrison should be well satisfied with his pupil’s proficiency. The Selection Committee have chosen the following twenty players to go into practice for the Canterbury match Messrs. J. Fowke, F. V. Kelly, H.'B. Lusk, D. Meldrum, T. A. Moresby, J- W. Ryburn, N. T. Williams (Gordon), A. M. Beale, J. T. Howlett, R. Neill, A. O’Brien, Rev. I. Richards (Auckland), C Harvie, W. Hawkins, D. Lynch, W. Stemson R. J- Vates (United), W. Gardiner, W. Lawson, I. Mills (Parnell). Williams did the hat trick in the Gordon-St. Mary’s match. Poland of St. Mary’s has gone to Wellington. Jack Arneil will probably play for Auckland against Gordon next week.
