Thk death is just announced by cable of the Dae de Broglie, at tin; ripe age of 70. Horn and educated in Paris, tin; Duo luis been a very prominent ligure in French literary, political and diplomatic circles. Ho acted as secretary to the French embassies in Madrid and Home before the Revolution. For over twenty years after that event his political principles obliged him to retire into private life, during which period he gave to the world many of the able historical and religious works, which gained him such a prominent place amongst the authors of the day. In 1871 he again, entered public life, and spent some time as French Ambassador in London, afterwards as head of the Conservatives he was practically the means of ending M. Theirs Presidentship of the Republic, and the placing of Marshal McMahon in the position. After this it was not surprising to find him rewarded with the position of Minister for Foreign Affairs and President of the Council, resigning in 1874 on being defeated in some designs for constitutional improvements. After a lapse of twelve months he was again elected President, to which honour was added those of Keeper of the Seals and Minister of Justice. During this period of political activity, the continuation of his literary labours show the remarkable energy and power of the man.
