AUSTRALIA.

The Australian Commonwealth is now »v accomplished fact, and those who have worked so hard for its completion can congratulate themselves on the result of their labours. It was inaugurated with festivities worthy of the occasion, which is saying as much for them as columns of superlative and grandiloquent adjectives could do. The new Commonwealth has now to work out its own destiny. That there will be mistakes made, and periods when this or that colony will be inclined to think they would have done better to hold aloof, goes without saying, but these will be only temporary, and need not be regarded seriously, for the general result must be of inestimable benefit to all concerned.
