NEW PLYMOUTH.

June 15. Bridge and Euchre. A card party and dance was arranged by ‘the committee of the New Plymouth Technical School last Wednesday evening in the Brougham-street Hall and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those present The prizes -were won as follows: Euchre—Ladies —Mrs. Harvey, first: Mrs. Steffenson, second, men, Mr. Wiley, first; Mr. Simcock, second; Bridge—'Ladies---Mrs. R. J. White, first; Miss Wood, second; men Mrs. Paul (playing as a gentleman), first; Mr. J. White, second. The Mayor (Mr. G. W. Browne) presented the prizes. Mr. A. George’s orchestra provided excellent music for the danee which followed. Amongst those present were: Mrs. Drew, pale blue silk, dainty blue and cream opera coat; Miss A. Bean, white muslin; Mrs. R. A long-felt want has been supplied by the advent of a club-house run by the New Plymouth Girls* Friendly Society in the old Anglican vicarage premises. The building, which has been renovated and redecorated throughout, is replete with

all modern conveniences and comforts, and should be largely patronised during lutteh hour and at other odd periods; by girls whose employment takes them some distance away from their homes. ■The chib house was thrown- open for inspection by the public the other day. Amongst those present I noticed: Mrs Colvile (president), Misses Curtis, PercySmith, Pelham, Wilson, Hempton, Wood, Wade, Godfrey, Humphries (2), Mesdames Horne, Addenbrooke, G. Pott, Paton, Dabb, F. G. Evans, Misses G. Shaw, Bedford (2), Bewley, Evans (-2), Hanna, Glasgow, R. Knott, Kedd, Watson, Buxton, G. Ray, K. Mills, Warren, Taylor, Dowling, A. Blair, T. Davidson, Olsen, ete. Concert. In St. Mary's Hall last Thursday evening a concert in aid of the Back Blocks Mission was held, which proved a great ilnaneial success, the credit of which belongs to Mrs, Colvile and Misses Godfrey and Taylor, the main organisers. Those who assisted in the musical part of the programme were: Musses Warren, White, O’Callaghan, Taylor, and B. Hirst, and Messrs Revs. A. Colvile and T. Robson, Johnson, and Haslam, whose items were imperatively encored. The second part of the programme was taken vp with a sketch, “The Confidential Clerk,” by the Boy Scouts. Amongst the audience were: Mrs Horne, Miss Wade, Misses Hempton, Mrs Wylie, Misses Humphries, Mrs Mathews, Miss Mathews, Mrs Peat, Misses Roy (2), Mrs Colvile, Mrs Kempthorne, Miss K. ■A small but very enjoyable social was held last week in St. Andrew's Hall to farewell Mr and Mrs Neil Mclsaac, who are leaving for Wellington. A short musical programme, which was much appreciated, was given by Misses Leitch, Stewart, Cannell, Goodacrc, and Connett Messrs. Asher, Reid, and Rev. Mr Roseveare. Mr N. K. McDiarmid expressed

regret and best wishes on behalf of tho managers of the ehurch, and from them presented Mr Mcfsaac with a fountain pen as a token of their esteem. Mr Reid spoke on behalf of the choir, and Mr. Fwing for the congregation. Mr Mclsaac suitably responded. The social closed with refreshments, which were provided by the ladies of the congregation. Personal. Mrs Tansey, M'angaweka, is on a visit to her daughter, Mrs Ken Webster, New Plymouth. M iss Knight, who has been the guest of Mrs Bradbury, New Plymouth, left for Wanganui on Saturday last. Mrs Williams is visiting her mother. Mrs R. Cock, Vogeltown. Mrs J. Strang, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs Crawford, has returned to her home in Taumarunui.

Mrs Peat, Feilding, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs Colvile, the vicarage.
