April 29. Afternoon Tea. A most enjoyable afternoon tea was given by Mrs D. A. Strachan at “Cowley on Wednesday afternoon. Mra Strachan received her guests wearing a delicately embroidered white silk blouse and black silk skirt. A dainty tea was dispensed in the drawing room, after which music was much appreciated. Some of those present were: —Mrs Mentiplay, dark green tailor-made, rose pink toque; Mrs Meade, dark grey costume, relieved with black, and mauve hat; Mrs Duckworth, black robe, white silk scarf, black toque; Mrs Townshend, blaek costume, large black hat with ostrieh feathers; Mra Florence, green costume, green toque, black wings; Mrs Northcroft, light blue costume, hat with ostrich feathers. Mrs Canavan, white embroidered costume, large tuscan hat with pink flowers; Mrs Innes, creme serge costume, creme hat with roses; Mrs Bamford (Auckland), brown costume, brown hat with blue wings; Mrs C. Neville. (Timaru) light blue empire robe relieved with black, large blue hat with wings; Miss Eyes, creme dress, creme hat with roses; Miss Cochrane (Christchurch), pink linen costume, cream hat with roses; Miss Giblin (Nelson), white frock burnt straw hat, relieved with black; Miss A. Neville, white muslin frock, large tuscan hat with blue flowers.

Personal. Miss Cochrane (Christchurch), is the guest of Mrs S. Florence (Beaver-road.) Miss Robson (Christchurch), has returned after spending a long holiday with Mr and Mrs Shipley (“Langridge.”) Mrs Stevenson "Upcot,” has gone to visit friends in Christchurch and Timaru.

Mr. T. L. Woods manager of the Bank of New Zealand, who has been on a holiday visit to Ceylon, has returned. Miss Curry who lias been visiting Blenheim, has returned to the A est Coast. Miss Giblin (Nelson) is the guest of Mr and Mrs Canavan (Stevenson-street). Mr A. Rogers, accompanied by his daughter. Miss Serena Rogers, are visiting friends in Auckland. Mr C. Neville has returned to Timaru. Mrs D. Strachan has gone to Nelson for a short holiday. Mrs Masefield and Miss B. "Masefield “Manaroa,” are spending a few days in town.

Miss Amuri Neville lias gone for a holiday to Christchurch and Timaru. Mr and Mrs F. Greenfield (Nelson) are the guests of Mr and Mrs B. Clouston, “Springlands.” Mr and Mrs Trolove, “The Shades,” have returned from Nelson. Mr K. Staee, ‘ Robin Hood Bay,” was in town during the week. Mrs Higgle (Wellington) is the guest

of Mrs. J. Corry, Maxwell-road.
