STRATFORD.
April 7. A Big Fire. The topic of conversation for the moment is, of course, the dreadful fire on Wednesday night, whieh totally consumed the Trocadero buildings. Though fortunately no lives were lost, some of the inmates, in spite of the ready assistance, were rather severely injured, and all lost their personal belongings. Girl Scouts. The first meeting to inaugurate the Girl Scout movement here was held on Friday night. Forty girls gave in their names to be enrolled, and many others are to join. Afternoon Tea. Mrs Pennell gave an enjoyable afternoon for Mrs Cardale last week. Amongst those present were: Mrs Raikes, Mrs Hine, Mrs Carbery, Mrs Paget, Mrs Uniacke, Mrs Crawshaw, Miss Crawshaw, Mrs E. C. Robinson, Mrs Hogg (Midhirst)', Mrs C. Bayley, Mrs Wake. Mrs Johnston was at home on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Paget was at home on Thursday. Mrs Munro received some friends on Friday. Mrs Crawshaw gave an enjoyable afternoon tea on Wednesday. Amongst the guests were: Mrs Stubbs, Miss Crawshaw (Australia), Mrs Raikes, Mrs Fookes, Mrs Porritt, Mrs Carbery, Mrs Uniacke, Mrs Johnston, Mrs Pennell, Mrs Wake, and others. Personal. Mr F. J. Heatley is spending a short visit in Stratford. Mr J. R. L. Stanford has left for a holiday to Australia. Lieut, and Mrs Cardale have arrived in Stratford. Lieut. Lampen has also arrived in connection with defence affairs. Mr W, D. Anderson has returned after a holiday spent in the South. Dr. Hotop is at present in Stratford. Dr. Hark paid a short visit to friends in Stratford last week.
