HAWERA, April 7. At the Tennis Courts. The members of the Tennis and Croquet Club entertained a large number of friends at the courts last Saturday as a farewell to Mrs Caplen and her two daughters. During the afternoon a progressive tennis tournament was held, the prizes being won by Miss B Nclan, and Mr Bell. In a few well chosen words, Mr Wilkes, on behalf of those present, wished\the Caplen family a pleasant trip and a safe return. Mrs Caplen was wearing a navy blue cashmere frock, black hat with feathers; Misses Caplen (2), navy blue costumes, hats trimmed with black velvet; Mrs Webster, pink cambric, hat with pink roses; Mrs G.lenn, green cashmere de soie, trimmed with black lace, black hat;' Mrs Hamilton, black lustre coat and, skirt,-black hat; Mrs W. Last Monday evening a large audience greeted Millie. Dolores, and greatly enjoyed her delightful concert. Dr. and Mrs Thomson. Mr and Mrs Bell, Mr and Mrs Page. Mr and Mrs Reid. Mrs and the Misses Moore (3), Mr Parkinson, Mr B. and Mrs F. Parkinson, Mrs Duckworth. Mrs Gillies, Mrs Major, Mrs Stewart. Mrs Kenrick. Miss Glynes, Miss Glenn. Miss Pratt, were amongst some I noticed present. Personal. Miss Kock (Auckland) is visiting her sister, Mrs W. Webster. Mr and Mrs Caplen. accompanied by their two daughters, left Hawera last Monday to join the Ruahine at Wellington, en route to England for a nine months’ trip. Mrs. W. Hamilton went to Wellington to see her people off. Mrs Blakeley (Auckland), who has been staying with her sister, Mrs Holder, has returned to her home. Mrs Kitto (Christchurch) is on a visit to Mr and Mrs R. M. Kitto. The Misses Norton (2) have come to Hawera to live with their brother, Mr Fred. Norton.
