HAWERA, February 3. Garden Party. Mr and Mrs A. W. Gillies gave a most enjoyable garden party at their lovely residence last Wednesday to introduce Mr and Mrs Stanley Reid, Mrs Gillies’ brother and sister-in-law. The gardens looked beautiful, and were in perfect order. During the afternoon numerous competitions were held', the prizes being won by Miss M. Moore and Mr Powell, for the greatest number of points won. Delicious afternoon tea was served on the lawns under the trees. Mrs Gillies received her guests in a very pretty embroidered gown, finished at the waist with a blue satin sash, white hat with blue ribbon a,ndl pink flowers; Mrs Reid, handsome frock of rose coloured eolienne, trimmed with Oriental embroidery and black velvet, black picture hat; Mrs Nalder, white embroidered muslin, blue coat braided in black, black hat liriedl with blue; Mrs Caplen, black chiffon taffeta, cream Maltese lace collar, black plumed hat; Mrs White, black charmeuse, white ostrich feather boa, black hat; Mrs Moore, grey linen coat, and skirt, heliotrope hat trimmed with grey; Mrs Lysaght, green coat and skirt, black hat with white flowers; Mrs Nolan, black gauze over white, trimmed with black satin and silk lace, blue hat; Mrs Dingle, black crepe de chine, a lovely black hat with plumes; Mrs McLean, grey and black brocaded silk gown, black hat; Mrs T. Atkinson, a smart costume of grey cloth, braided, hat to match; Mrs O’Callaghan, cream serge coat and skirt, blue hat with pink flowers; Mrs Bell, pale pink voile, black and white hat with pink flowers; Mrs Barton, black Russian coat and skirt, small black hat with wreath of heliotrope flowers; Mrs Thomson, grey tweed coat and skirt, black hat; Mis Williams, white and black striped serge costume, cream hat; Mrs 0. Hawkeii, white muslin frock, violet hat trimmed with heliotrope flowers and ribbon; Mrs Kimbell, white embroidery muslin, small black hat; Mrs C. Hawken, white frock, black hat; Mrs Willis Was wearing white, and a black hat; Miss -Russell (Christchurch), a pretty frock of champagne silk trimmed with rose coloured silk, black plumed hat; Miss Turton; grey cloth frock, rose hat with wreath of shaded roses; Miss-Pratt, blue floral muslin, black hat; Miss.Clapcott, white lawn, blaek hat; Miss;,Nolan, black lace frock, grey hat trimmed with small pink roses and black velvet; Miss B. Nolan, cream crystalline, green hat with shaded roses; Miss E. Caplen, green charmeuse frock, trimmed with cream lace, cream hat with green satin bows; Misses Moore (2) were wearing green linen costumes, hats to match; Miss Douglas,'heliotrope linen costume, brown Hat; Miss Brett, white linen coat and skirt, violet hat; Miss Littlejohn (Wellington), black and white striped muslin frock, white hat with a wreath of white roses; Miss Dingle, a sweet frock of shaded heliotrope and green chiffon, cream hat with plumes to match the frock; Miss McLean; brown frock, trimmed with silk and braiding of a lighter shadle, brown hat with white feathers; Miss Hunter (Waikato), dainty white muslin, black hat with pink flowers; Miss Baird, cream Sicilian costume, grey hat trimmed with. shades of heliotrope flowers. Personal. ' Mr and) Mrs A. W. Webster have returned to Hawera after an enjoyable trip to England and the Continent. Miss Hunter (Waikato) is visiting friends here. Mrs R. McLean is spending a short holiday in Wellington. • - ( Miss Brown, who has been the guest of Mrs Barton, has left for her home in Australia. Miss Whitcombe has returned from Christchurch.
