December 2i Woodford House School. Last Monday was quite a gala day at Woodford House, combining a welcome home to Miss Hodge (lady principal), who has just returned from England, and prize-giving to the pupils for the year’s work. The junior pupils gave an exhibition of Japanese drill in costume, also songs and recitations in the schoolroom, and were well applauded. Afterwards guests and pupils all adjourned to the lawn at Woodford House, where delicious afternoon tea was dispensed by the senior pupils. Miss Hodge was presented with a handsome roll-top writing cabinet by the ex-pupils of the school. Miss Hodge was also the recipient of a lovely bouquet of cardinal and white roses and ferns with long cardinal streamers, the school colours. Mrs. Crosse, who presented the prizes, also received a lovely bouquet of roses. Miss Hodge looked exceedingly graceful and stylish in a trained Russian gown of tussore silk much soutaehed with black, lace vest and touches of lavender, smart black and white plumed hat; Mrs. Crosse was wearing a coat and skirt of violet doth, black braided and buttoned, black plumed hat; Miss Crosse, marine blue cloth coat and skirt, champagne hat with pink roses; Miss —. Mrs. Fenwick, white gown, hat of champagne straw, black velvet and roses; Mrs. Gascoyne, smart coat and skirt of striped tweed, green straw toque with black; Mrs. Kiely, blue linen coat and skirt, black hat: Mrs. McKibbin, Russian costume of holland, smart hat of cream straw, wreathed with scarlet roses: Mrs. Kewbigen, petrol blue shantung, coat and skirt braided, large black hat with pink roses; Miss Xewbigen, bottle green linen, embroidered gown, art hat; Mrs. Xairn, dark grey costume, toque en suite; Mrs. Symes, grey costume, black and white toque; Mrs. Haise looked very smart and stylish in an embroidered robe of heliotrope linen, smart toque of fuchsia shades, banded with violet velvet; Mrs. Cameron, tussore gown profusely braided, hat en suite: Mrs Hurley, brown striped coat and skirt, toque of amethyst; Miss Hurley, pink linen frock, brown straw hat with pink Paisley; Mrs. Brocklehurst, white embroidered froek, black hat; Mrs. Beilby, coat and skirt of white cloth, braided, black hat; Mrs. "Wallace, black gown, large black hat; Mrs. McLeod, black doth coat and skirt, large black mushroom hat with wreath »f daisies; Miss S. At the breaking-up ceremony of tho Pakl Pakl school the Misses S’, and P. Wellwood were each presented with a

purse of eovereigns as an expression of the goodwill of the parents and residents of tho district. Mrs. J. Miller and family have gone to Feilding for the Xmas holidays. Mrs. Johnston and family have gone to Xapier for a few weeks. Miss Xewbigen has gone to Blenheim for a short holiday. Miss R. Wellwood has gone to Blenheim to take part in the tennis tournament. Miss R. De Lisle is home for the term holidays.
