NAPIER.
December 21. \ The Week. No social events have taken place this week: everyone is so busy with shopping. The children are all home! for the holidays, and many country visitors are in Napier; in fact, everyone is rushing wildly about wondering why in the world they have left so much fol! the last few days, and although there are extra assistants in most ehops it is a wearying business waiting for one's turn. Numerous private tents have been! pitched on the beach, and as the weathe® is exceedingly hot and sultry bathing in the baths and in the serf goes on mosfi of the day. Last night the Kia Oral Club held their swimming sports in tha Municipal Baths. There was a good at* tendance, and a novelty race in which the competitor had to swim across thO baths in his nightgown holding a lighted candle in his hand, caused great amusement. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. J. Nairn, of Powrerere, are on a visit to Napier. Mr. and Mn». Walsh, of Gwavas t visiting Napier.
Mr. and Mre. N. Williams and family (Te Anti}, Mrs. Davidson (Napier), and Miss Kettle (Napier) are all returning to Hawke’s Bay from England this week. Miss Hartree (Ngaroto) is visiting Napier. Dr. and Mrs. Reid and Mrs. Lewis Reed (Waipawa) are spending a few days in Napier. Miss Moore (Auckland) is on a visit to Napier.
