November 9. Waikato Show. The <»reat event of the week has, of course, "been the Waikato Agricultural and I’astoral Show. The lovely showground at Claudelands has been a busy scene for days past, getting ready for the opening day (Tuesday), wlueh was taken up mainly by judging the various exhibits. On Wednesday the weather was most unpropitious. early in the day thick misty showers obscuring everything. but they cleared away, and the afternoon was all that could be desired. The chief attraction of the show was,undoubtedly the lovely horses shown, for which the Waikato is famed. Over .00 entries were received this year, an in; crease of about 100. every class being well contested, especially in the jumping. The pleasure for many of ns was quite spoilt by the accidents occurring in these classes) two ladies and gentlemen sustaining horrid at least of the former having to let tvkAi away in the ambulance. The comedy “Facing the Music*’ was staged by a number of local ladies and gentlemen on the two Show nights, in aid of the Hamilton Orchestral Society. The performers acquitted themselves remarkably well in the intensely funny situations of the piece, keeping the audience amnsed and delighted throughout. Miss O'Neill, as one Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. J. A. Going as another. Mr. Milford McArthur and Mr. Hopkins, as the two Mr. Smiths, all made the most of their respective parts, and were delightfully free from stiffness. A good andienee on Tuesday night was far exceeded on Wednesday evening, when the sign "House Full” had to be exhibited liefore the time for opening. A few of those present were: Mrs. Herdman, cream with lovely lace; Mrs. Gillies, white evening dress; Mrs. McLeod, pink cloak; Miss McLeod, blue cloak; Mrs. Hunter, black silk; Miss B. Hunter, white; Miss Chitty, black; Miss XV. Chitty, dark green; Mrs. Hill, dainty pale pink; Mesdames Wilson. T. Jolly, Biggs, Loughnan, Misses Lambert (2), Cusson, Loughnan.
