August 27. A Dance. The second of the series of Assembly dances took place on Friday evening in the Grosvenor Hall, when there was a large attendance. The room was tastefully decorated with evergreens, Hags, and spring Howers, and no pains were spared by the committee and secretaries to make the dance a huge success. The supper-tables were a pretty sight, being exquisitely arranged with almond blossoms and spring Howers. The floor was well prepared for dancing, and Mr Perry’s orchestra supplied very good music. Miss Muriel Farmer (debutante) looked charming in a handsome gown of white charmeuse, the body of which was relieved with chiffon and bugle trimming, and the front panel jof the skirt orna> men ted with tiny bows of self material. She carried a very pretty bouquet composed of winter roses and camellias, intermixed with delicate foliage. On Wednesday evening, Miss Rogers, organist at the Church of the Nativity, entertained her choir at Eltham Lodge. A very enjoyable evening was spent in music and various competitions. The prizes for the latter were won by Miss Sowman and Mr. Wedde, while the booby prize fell to Miss Ross. A delicious supper was served, the tables bring decorated with spring flowers. Afternoon Tea. Yesterday afternoon Miss Maclaine entertained a number of friends at York Terrace at a “Handkerchief Tea*’ for Miss L. Horne, who is shortly io be married to Mr. Gifford, of Havelock. All the guests represented various advertisements, and this competition was won by Mrs. L. Horne. A dainty afternoon tea was passed round during the afternoon. Miss Maclaine received her guests in a stylish striped silk blouse, and dark skirt; and Miss Horne wore a striped green coat and skirt and pretty blue hat with roses.
