TAUMARUNUI.
July 29. Tea Meeting. A very successful tea and concert was organised by the Ladies’ Guild in aid of the Presbyterian Pulpit Fund, and held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening last. At six o’clock the two tables were filled with those desirous of doing justice to the good things provided. Tea being over about seven, the tables were cleared and preparations made for the concert, which was opened by an overture, played by Dr. Adams-Monfries and her sister, Miss Adams, of Dunedin. Those who contributed items were: Mesdames Dixon, Maher, Long, Monfries, and Misses Adams, McNeish, Gill, and Carmont and Tui Ward, Messrs. Monfries, McKenzie, Brown, Ellis, Cockerill, Searle, Gordon, Thorne and Master Maurice Winter. Special thanks are due to Mr. Whittaker for the free use of the hall, and he and Mr. Stewart for tables, and Messrs. Beeche and Lyon for timber, ete y Mr. and Mrs. Thwaites for their liberal assistance, and also Messrs. Gordon, McKean, Read, and Thorne. The ladies of the committee are to be congratulated on the success of their untiring efforts, and consisted of: Mesdames Ward, Dekar, Langmuir, Long, Bannerman, Cross, Read, Beeche, Thompson, Bloomfield, Thorne, (Harvey, and Miss Stevenson. At the close of the concert, the Rev. Read, in a very appropriate speech, thanked those who had so helped to make the evening’s entertainment a success. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Hume have returned from Auckland, after spending some weeks there. Mrs. Dr. Howard has returned from the South Island.
