HASTINGS.
July 28. A Concert. On Thursday last a concert and comedietta was given in St. Matthew’s Hall, to assist in defraying expenses for a new pavilion. The weather was very bad, the unfortunate result being an almost empty hall. The performers for the concert programme were:—Mrs. Hunter, Misses Duff, and Gray, Messrs. Bowring, Hudson, and Dr. McKibbin. The membent of the Tennis Club performed a pleasing comedietta. Mrs. Lewis, who took the leading role, did so most charmingly, and the other char-
acters, who were all three realistically funny, were: Mrs. McKibbin, Misses Dobbie and Braithwaite. Among the audience were: Mesdames Nairn, Nation, Braithwaite, Ruesel, Shaw, Hurley, Fergusson, Fenwick, Faulkner, Seott, White, Ebbett, Misses Evans, Williams, Hurley (2), Wellwood, Fitzroy. Hunt Club Races. The Hunt Club Races, which were held yesterday, were greeted with bitterly cold weather. Consequently cloaks and wraps were much in evidence. Amongst those present I noticed:—Mesdames Lowry, Tod, McKenzie, Hill, Humphries, Stead, Nairn, Faulkner, Russel, Williams, Mackersey, Tosswill, Haseal, Sunderland, Macfarlane, Clarke, Niven, Hindmarsh, Misses Williams, Mackersey, Mason, Macfarlane, Hindmarsh, Sunderland, Fitzroy. Personal. Mr«s. Pharazan has gone to Wellington. Mrs. Stead has returned from Christchurch. Mrs. Newbigen has gone to Wellington. The many friends of Mrs. Alex. Lane will be sorry to learn that she has been suffering from very indifferent health for several weeks past.
