July 8. Afternoon. Tea. Mrs. R. M. AlcKnight entertained a few friends at afternoon tea on Friday last: Mrs. Morrah, Mrs. A. Grey, Mrs. Randolph, Airs. Moodie, Mrs. Eliot, Mrs. Purchas (Auckland), Mrs. and Miss Coombes, Mrs. D. Reed, Mrs. Bell, and a few others were present. Mrs. McKnight wore a black crepe de chine ekirt, and blouse of black tucked chiffon taffeta. Bridge Party. On Saturday night Mrs. 1). Reed, Col-lege-street, had a small bridge party. The players included: Mrs. and Miss Bell, Mrs. Bendall, Mrs. Pickett, Miss Randolph, Miss W. Watson and Messrs. D. Reed, Scott (2), Ray, Westaby, and London. The hostess wore a pale blue eilk muslin frock with yoke of frills of narrow white Valenciennes lace. [Music and Bridge. On the same evening, Mrs. R. K. Reed, Broad-street, had a few friends for music and bridge. Mr. and Mrs. Adam McDonald, Air. and Airs. J. Waldegrave, Miss Mabel Smith. Aliss Bright (Gisborne), the Misses Reed (2), and Messrs Recil (3), and Murray were of the party. Miss Alabel Smith, Bank of New Zealand, was hostess at a small bridge evening on Tuesday night. Those playing were Miss Smith, Air. and Airs. I). Reed, Miss Porter, Aliss Randolph, and Messrs Scott, Ray, and Westaby. Miss Smith was wearing a cream skirt and very dainty blouse of cream lace, with embroidery in pale shades of silk. Uedertafel Concert. There was a very large audience present at the Opera House last night for the Liedertafel concert. Practically every item was encored, which speaks eloquently for the success of the programme. Messrs. Hughes and Perrin sang delightful solos, and Messrs. Rodgers, Gardener, Hughes, and Keeble sang several quartets. Waldegrve, cream voile and lace, pink rose on corsage, cream corduroy velvet cord; Miss Gwen Bell, white muslin and lace; Miss Porter, cream silk, pale green coat; Aliss Helen Porter, in white, with sapphire blue velvet coat; Mrs. Bunting, black crepe de chine, with 'ace and touches of turquoise blue; Airs. Jeffries, black toilette with black sequin trimming, and pink rose on bodice, ■pale blue scarf; Miss Alawhinney, white muslin and lace; Airs, and Aliss Hewitt, Messrs. Hewitt (4), Abraham (2), Dr. and Airs. Greig, Mrs. and the Misses Randolph, Aliss Warburton, Airs, and the Misses Gardener, Aliss Beswick, Air. and Mrs. Paisley, Miss Price, Air. and Airs. Hirech, Airs. W. Bendall, the Misses Robinson, Airs. Porteous, Aliss Khutze, and many others. Personal. Mrs. Purchas (Auckland) is the guest of Airs. A. Eliot, Alexandra-street. Air. and Airs. Levein (Wellington), who have been staying at the Grand Hotel here for some months, left on ■Wednesday for Auckland, and Rotorua, where they will remain for a month or six weeks, then returning again to Palmerston. - Airs. Fulton (Wellington) is staying with her sister, Mrs. Warburton. Mrs. C. Armstrong (Gisborne) is visiting Airs. E. J. Armstrong. Miss Price (itangitikei) is the guest of Mrs. J. D. R. Hewitt. VIOLET.
