May 20. Tire Theatre. The town has been exceptionally quiet this wook, no social gatherings to speak of. “The Night of the Party" had si very good house on Tuesday night. A large contingent came up from Jiltham, including Mrs Harris, Mrs McGarry, Mrs Wilkinson. Mrs ( rump, and others; from Stratford. Mrs Crawshaw. Mrs Young, Airs Paget, Airs E. ( . Bobinson, Airs Budge. Miss Fussell, Mrs Menzies, the Aliases Hunter etc. Bridge. Airs E. ( . Bobinson gave a small bridge party on Wednesday night for Airs tollins (New Plymouth), who is at present staying with her. Amongst the invited wen*: Mrs Stubbs. Airs Glasgow, Airs I niaeke. Mrs Paget. Mrs Budge. Mrs Bonnell. At Home. Mrs \ tiling wa- “A( Home" to a few friends on Thursdiav afternoon.
Personal. Great sympathy is felt for Mrs A. Bayly. Auckland, whose little daughter died there on Sunday, and was buried in Stratford on Wednesday. Air and Airs Fookes have returned after their short visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Young have returned from Wellington. Air Deacon has left for New Plymouth. Rev. H. A. Fa veil, vicar of Holy Trinity Church, has been summoned to Auckland, to assist temporarily as chaplain charge of the parish during theßatcmfw and secretary to the Bishop. The Rev. A. IT. Colville will take charge of the parish during the vicar’s absence.
Mrs O. Curtis and family have returned from Auckland.
Mr C. Bayly (Toko) has returned from Auckland.
Air Raikes has left for the South Island, owing to the death of his brother.
Mrs Raikes and family have returned from their short holiday to Opunake. Mrs Collins, New Plymouth, is at present on a visit with Mrs E. C. Robinson.
