April 8. Afternoon Tea. An enjoyable afternoon tea was given at the “Haeremai” by Miss Gladys Harley ’for Miss Douglas, whose marriage takes place shortly. Miss Harley wore mauve striped silk, white hat with lilac; Miss Douglas was wearing a lovely gown of white lace over white silk, large picture hat; Miss lloulker, cream cloth, floral hat; Mi«ss Booth, mauve silk muslin, mauve velvet hat; Miss LangleyAdams, white linen; Mrs. Claude Hamilton, pale blue cloth, black picture hat ; Miss F. Maginity, white linen. Others present were: Misses Wright (2), Hair (2), Bamford (2), Tomlinson (2), Coster, B. Sharp. Tennis Party. A large tennis party was given by Mr. 11. R. Dunean on his tennis courts. Mrs. Hay ter (Timaru) wore a smart gown of navy striped tafl'vta, and a black hat; Miss Hayter (Timaru) was weir ing a graceful frock of mauve flowered muslin, and a pretty floral hat. < It liens Invited were: Miss Duncan. Misses Hud diestone, Ledger (2), Clark, D. Bill, Stevens, Messrs. Clarke, Langley-Bell, Herd, Walker, and G. Clark. Personal. Widespread regret wae felt when the lamentably sudden death of Mr. Francis
Trask, M.L.C., became known. Mr. TraaU fulfilled the office-of Mayor of Neltson for the long period of HO consecutive years.
Dr. Frengley is paying- a visit to Nelson.
Mr. and Mrs. John Forrester Edwards have left on their return voyage to England.
Mr. and Mrs. 11. 0. Ledger and Miss J. Ledger leave for England by the lonic. Mr. and Mrs. George Watts have returned to Marlborough.
