March 24. Farewells. A farewell dinner was given by Mrs G. G. Stead at Strowan Park on Monday night for Mrs J. €'. Palmer, who is leaving Christchurch for England this week. The guests were Mrs Palmer. Mrs Arthur Rhodes, Mrs George Rhodes, Mrs Gower Burns. Mrs Nanearrow, Mrs Beals, Mrs Henry Wood. Miss Hoadley (Napier), Miss Molineaux, Miss Nanearrow and Miss Nedwill. On the Same Evening. A farewell dinner party was given by Miss Humphreys (Fendalton) for Miss Ogle, who is also leaving for England. Amongst the guests were: Mrs T. Cowlishaw. Misses Ogle. Symes, Lee. Kitson, and Messrs T. Cowllshaw, Godley, Neil, Stead, Brittan and Allen. A Bridge Party. Asa farewell to Miss Muriel Anderson, who is going to England to be married, was given by Miss Merton at Park Terrace. The guests included the Misses Anderson (3), B. Russell, Humphreys (2), Symes. Campbell, Moore, Nanearrow, Wilson and Thomas. At the Shirley links to-day a farewell luncheon party will be given for Miss Muriel Andenson by the lady members of the Golf Club. Polo Sports. The Christchurch Polo Club brought their season to a close on Saturday, when

the annual sports were held at the Metropolitan Trotting Chib’s course. At the conclusion Mrs A. Rhodes presented the prizes. March 26th, the intert'ollege tournament between the four colleges of the University of New Zealand will open. The Canterbury College students intend giving a dance during the stay of the visiting students. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. H. Russell (Hawke’s Bay) have been staying with Mrs. J. D. Hall (Middleton), Christchurch. Miss Humfrey, who was the guest of Mrs. John Deans (Riccarton) has returned to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Ormond. Mr. and Mrs. Mclxenzie. ami Mr. and Mrs. Harold Russell left Christchurch for the North on Saturday evening. Mrs. J. D. Million (Christchurch) is staying with friends in Timaru. Mrs. Beswick (Christchurch) has gon< for a short visit to Rotorua. Miss Mary Fox (Christchurch) is staying at Mt. Somers, the guest of Mrs. Kilian. Miss Esther Barker i Woodbury) is staying with Mrs. Arthur Rhodes ( Merivale I. Miss \\ rough ton (Timaru) has been the guest of Mrs. Strachey (Chri-t--churvh ). Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Hill. Miss Hill. Miss Bowen, ami Miss L. Bowen (Christchurch) left last w<ik for a trip South. Mrs. Vernon ( Christcliur h) left f r a lengthened visit to the South.
