.March 24. Golf. The Nel-on Golf Club held its opening day in beautiful autumn weather, at the Tahuna Links. The Captain (Air. ■I. 11. Cock) drove the first ball, and declared the season open. During the afternoon a mixed foursomes match was played from sides chosen on the ground. The < tptain's side played that of the
secretary, and the match finished all square. Aftemoon-.tea was provided by the captain’s wife, Mrs. J. H. Cock. Th* golf course now contains four holes of over 400 yards in length, and three of 500 yards; and the course is now 6,000 yards, which is championship length. The silver shield, presented by the officers of H.AI.s. Encounter, will be played for this season, as also the competitions for the silver trophy presented by the Club captain. Mr. and Mrs. 11. C. Cock. Miss V. Leggatt, Misses Clark, Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Barnes, Mr. and Mrs. W. Squires, Miss S. Fell, Miss Carter (Wellington), Miss Stevens, Misses Ledger, Messrs. Hamilton. Personal. The Rev. 11. A. Kennedy (Leeds) has been staying in Nelson. Mr. Joynt has returned to Wellington. Miss B. Humphries (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs. Hunter-Brown. Dr. Barr has gone to the Lakes for some weeks* deer stalking. Miss Payne (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs. Mules. Captain Richardson has returned to Wellingt on. Mr. Al. A. Jenny has gone to Dunedin. where he intends to reside. Miss Al. Atkinson has gone to Waihi to stay with Dr. and Mrs. Bell Mr. and Mrs. C. Y. Fell have returned from their visit to Rotorua.
