WANGANUI.

March 4. At the Theatre. The Pollard Opera Company played to good houses for four nights at the Opera House during race week. Amongst those I noticed were:—Mrs. G. McGregor, Mrs. W. Borlace, Mr. and Mrs. Peel, Miss D. Brettargh, Miss W. Anderson, Miss Brettargh, Miss Wilford, Mrs. Peake, Mrs. Godwin, Miss Clare, Miss Allison, Miss Hadfield, Mr. and Mrs. Fairburn, Mrs. Wilford, Miss P. Hadfield, Miss Gillfillan, and others. On the Lawn.

There was glorious weather for the first day of the Autumn race meeting. The attendance and racing were excellent. Amongst those present were: — Mrs. W. Johnston (Awahuri), in a beautiful black crepe de chine gown with silk insertion, black straw hat with coarse black lace forming bows; Mrs. P. Baldwin (Palmerston North), in a very smart frock of cream and pale heliotrope, floral voile with bolero of heliotrope silk embroidery, and two wide bands of the same on the trained skirt, very large and fine heliotrope straw hat lined with chiffon of a paler shade with velvet in the same tones and aigrette at the side; Mrs. Holmes (Wairarapa), white embroidered muslin frock, pale blue-grey coarse straw hat with blue ribbon rosettes at the sides; Mrs. D. Riddiford (Marton) wore a beautiful gown of black laee over white glace silk with vest of eream net and silk embroidery in blue and gold shades, electric blue silk belt, black hat with feathers; Mrs. Barthorpe (Silverhope), dark heliotrope crepe de ehine frock made in Empire style with cream net and wide heliotrope silk embroidery, dark heliotrope hat with silk the same shade; Mrs. A. Fitzherbert (Feilding), navy blue coat and skirt, cream vest embroidered in blue tones of silk, electric blue coarse straw hat with upturned brim and black velvet; Mrs. Stewart (Feilding), green striped linen coat and skirt, cream straw hat with rose pink shaded roses and foliage; Mrs. Innes (Palmerston North), pale blue cloth coat and skirt, cream vest, pretty blue straw hat with turned-up brim at the side with wings and wide band of jewelled trimming round the crown; Miss Ward (Rangitikei), tobae Jhrown crepe de chine gown with square-cut vest of cream net with Oriental embroidery, burnt straw hat with wreath of pink rose and foliage; Mrs. Gill-Carev, green and cream striped silk gown with black silk embroidery, black feather boa, pretty black straw with wide black watered ribbon at the back, and two black wings with jet buckle in the front; Mrs. Good, cornflower blue coat and skirt, butter-cup straw hat with black silk ribbon and grey wings; Miss Williams (Australia), cream muslin frock with tiny pink roses on it, very large smart cream straw hat with pink roses and foliage; Mrs. Fairburn, pale heliotrope floral voile gown with vest and sleeves of cream net and lace, touch of heliotrope velvet on the bodice, very large chip straw hat with black watered silk lining, and the same at the side with wide, black wings; Mrs. Lomas, white muslin frock with wide sash of white ribbon with band of pink and black spots, cream straw hat with pink hydrangea and black glace ribbon; Mrs. Saunders,- pale grey doth coat with strapping of green and white check, skirt of the same, large black velvet hat; Mrs. Imlay Saunders, cream serge costume, with cream military braid, cream straw hat with wreath of roses; Mrs. Krull, black crepe de chine, made in Empire style, with cream vest and touch of gold tissue on the bodice, black bonnet with aigrette; Mrs. P. Krull, black and white striped voile, with vest of cream net', black hat with feathers; Mrs. Peel, pale grey cloth costume, made in Empire style, grey silk hat with wings; Mrs. E. Cowper, pale blue and cream striped ninon frock, made in Empire style, with cream vest embroidered in fine black silk braid, black straw hat with wreath of large white roses and foliage; Mrs. A. Lewis wore a beautiful black lace robe over glace silk, black hat with sequins and ostrich feathers; Mrs. G. McGregor, wine-coloured frieze tailormade coat and skirt, hat to match; Mrs. Harold, pretty pale grey crepe de chino frock, with silk embroidery and yoke of tucked net with Houitou lace at the

sides, black hat with cone-shaped satin crown, black ostrich feathers; Mrs. Crombie, white embroidered linen frock, cream crinoline straw hat with wreath of large black roses; Mrs. H. Hole, green striped linen coat and skirt, green straw hat with flowers the same shade; Mrs. Montgomerie, black crepe de chine gown, heliotrope bonnet with tiny flowers the same shade, and satin strings; Mrs. A. Izard, white tucked muslin, made with panel effect back and front, with embroidery, Vlack hat with sequin jet and ostrich tips; Mrs. Sorley, black and white striped ninon frock, with lace, small straw hat with aigrette; Mrs. Moore, pink and cream striped costume, with shoulder searf of emerald green chiffon, mole-coloured coarse straw hat, with emerald-green wing at the side; Miss Moore wore a grey striped silk frock, with wide silk embroidery and cream net yoke, green straw hat with pink ribbons, and crown covered with pink flowers; Mrs. G. Marshall, amethystshaded crepe de chine gown, with vest and sleeves of Russian net in the same tone, with ostrich feather boa, floral hat of lilac, with touch of pink in it; Miss D. Marshall, pale blue Shantung frock, old rose shaded straw hat with wreath of flowers; Mrs. C. Russell (Nukumara), wine-coloured frieze coat and skirt, silk hat in the same shade with roses at intervals; Miss Russell (Christchurch), grey striped tweed coat and skirt, becoming heliotrope hat with wreath of large roses the same shade; Miss Wilford. pale heliotrope and cream striped voile, made in Empire style, with tucked vest edged with velvet and ruching of chiffon, black hat with velvet ribbons and ostrich

tips; Mrs. Saunderson, cream costume with fichu of cream net edged with lace, cream straw hat with searf in electricblue tones; Mrs. Mackay, pale green Shantung gown, the skirt was made with tight-fitting hip yoke, with accordeonpleated kilting of the same, very smart black straw hat with black glace silk; guaged round the crown; Mrs. Paget (Stratford), cream lace rote ovei- glace silk, pale pink straw hat with masses of pink roses and foliage; Mrs. Young (Stratford), rose pink gown with cream net yoke, black hat with jet and feathers: Mrs. Greenwood, white muslin frock with embroidery, pretty floral hat; Miss Miason wore a very becoming frock of pale blue Shantung, with yoke of cream tucked net, and wide band of silk embroidery, black hat with crown of silk, and pink roses at the side, brim lined with pleated pale, blue chiffon; Mrs. H. Wilson, pale grey cloth coat and skirt, black hat with band of jet trimming and ostrich tips; Mies M. Harrison, paie grey linen frock, black hat with chiffon; Mrs. R. Jackson, black crepe de chine gown with wide jet embroidery on the bodice; Mrs. H. Jackson, pale blue and cream striped voile gown with net and lace yoke, pale blue crinoline straw hat with flowers at the side; Mrs. J. Foster wore a beautiful cream laee gown over silk, apple green straw hat with wreath of large old rose poppies; Mrs. Falber, amethyst striped satin gown, very smart hat the same shade; Mrs. D’Arcy, pale grey linen coat and skirt, cream vest, brown straw hat with straw ornaments in tones of brown; Miss Brettargh, electric blue costume with yoke of cream net edged with silk the same shade, 'black hat with tulle and pink roses; Miss W. Brettargh, cream serge eoat and skirt, black hat with shaded roses: Mrs. H. Nixon, white linen coat and skirt, with bands of openwork embroidery. black hat with chiffon and ostrich feathers; Mass Nixon, white embroidery frock with heliotrope ribbon threaded through it, heliotrope silk hat with ornaments in same tone; Mrs. Nathan (Wellington), wore a beautiful old rose gown with net and lace, hat to match; Miss J. Wilson (Bulls), •white muslin frock with lace and insertion, cornflower blue belt, cream hat with the same shades on it; Mrs. J. Taylor, tobae brown silk frock, with yoke of cream net and lace, black hat with tips and chiffon; Mrs. Wilson (Palmerston North), wore a cream costume with beautiful old rose cloth coat and black hood, large blaek hat with plumes; Mrs. Bell (Palmerston North), black coat anil skirt, blaek and white hat. Personal. Mrs. France, of Otago, has been staying in Wanganui with her mother, Mrs. Hawken. Miss Williams, of Australia, is the guest of Mrs. Good in Wanganui. Mix. McNaughton Christie, of Wanganui, has been staying in Wellington. Mrs. Wake, of Stratford, is staying in Wanganui with relations.

Mrs. Gonville Saunders, of has returned from her visit to relations in Hawke's Bay. Amongst visitors in Wanganui for ths Autumn Race Meeting were, Mrs. W.
