December 9. Tennis. Last Saturday afternoon quite a number of ladies and gentlemen assembled on the Marlborough Lawn Tennis grounds in Dillon-street, and the usual pleasant afternoon was spent. On this occasion, Mrs. F. Greenfield and Mrs. P. Hultn-e provided and dispensed a dainty afternoon tea. Some of taiose I noticed were: Mesdames Griffiths (2), Waddy, Walker, Bennett, MioCallum, Wolferstan, Broughton, -Scott Smith, Marsh, La.mbie, Strachan, Orr, Reid, Bagsge, Clous ton, Horton, Scott., Misses Neville (2), Clouston, Scott-Smith, Bell, Smith, Chaytor, Griffiths, Newton, Chambers (Pieton), Ewart (2), Marsh (2), Nevin, C. Greenfield, McLaucblan, Horton (2), Chapman, Messrs. B. Moore, Bagge, Griffiths, Rogers, Staee, Davey, Fisher, Parker, Greenfield, Tuke, Smale, Drs. Walker and Bennett. Tea and Concert. A most enjoyable and successful tea and concert was held in the Church of the Nativity Schoolroom last Tuesday in aid of funds for the new infant Sunday school. A dainty tea was served at 6 o’clock, the tables being prettily arranged with sweet peas. During the evening vocal items were sung by Miss E. Conolly and Mr. Handley Wells; violin solo by Mr. G. Perry, and musical monologue by Mr. Quartley. Some very pretty items were also rendered by the Juvenile Band. Some of those present were: Mesdames Grace, Rogers, Filleul, R. Adams, Price (Christchurch), Townshend, Jackson, Powell, McKenzie and Duckworth; Misses Rogers (2), Grace (4), Horton (2), Mowat (2), Horne, Maclaine, Conolly, Eyes, Messrs. White (2), 11. Grace, Jenkins, Dr. Lambert, Townshend, Staee, S. Horton, and McKenzie and Girling. Personal. Miss Nellie Goulter is visiting friends in Wellington. Mrs. S. Neville has returned from visiting friends in Nelson. Nurse Rees, who has been on a lengthy Visit to England, has been spending a few days with Mr. -and Mrs. Davis, in Ha w k esh a w-st ree t. Miss Turner, “The Sounds,” has been spending a few days with Miss McLaur n in Maxwell-road, and is now the guest of Miss Chaytor at Pieton. Miss Wene Grace is spending her term holidays with Arohdeaeon and Mrs. Grace at the Vicarage. Mrs. Evatt (Stratford), and her son are visiting Mr. and Mrs. E. Rose at Kai Iwi. Mrs. J. Symonds (Christ elm reh), Mr. A. Symonil-s (Christchurch), and Miss Mildred Symonds (Christchurch), have been staying with the Misses McLauchlan at Bannock. Mrs. Lyell (Nelson) is the guest of Mrs. T. Hallnt, Springlands. Mr. and Mrs. P. Stuart IWv Crook) have returned from a short v'<( . ! lington. Mr. B. Tidy left on Tuesday for ths North Island.
Mr. and Mrs., and Miss Greenfield ar< visiting friends in Wellington. Miss Coyen (Dunedin) is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Redwood at Spring Creek.
Mr. Seott Smith, S.M., and his eon, Mr. J. Scott Smith, are visiting Kai-
koura.
