December 10. Bridge. Mrs. E. J. Armstrong, Broad-street, entertained a. few friends at bridge on last Friday night. Mr. Armstrong and Miss Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Waldegrave, Miss Dorothy Waldegrave, Mr. R. K. Reid, and Miss Dora Reid, Mr. and Mrs. Moeller, Mr. and Mrs. McKnight, Mi*, and Mrs. Morrah, Mr. and Mrs. Rennell, Mr. Copeland and Mr. Edgar were those playing. Flower Show.

There was a gorgeous display of flowers at the Horticultural Show held in the Zealandia Hall on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Particularly beautiful was the collection of sweet peas. The Bradfield trophy was won by a splendid collection from Mrs. GoringJohnston’s garden, Mrs. Bradfield securing the Yates’, special prize. In the table decoration competition. Mrs. Hu.me took first prize, Mrs. J. P. Innes coming second. Mrs. F. S. Mcßae took first prize for the prettiest mantelpiece. On different occasions there were present: Mrs. and the Misses O’Brien, Mrs. Hankins. Mrs. W. L. Fitzherbert, Mrs. Rendall, Mrs. and Miss Black, Mrs. R. Hewett, Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. and Miss Knight. Mrs. Hume, Miss Park, Mrs. Sim, Mrs, Vernon. Tennis.

The heat has been intense all the ■week, but tennis has 'been enthusiastically played’ every afternoon. Mrs. Warburton, Mrs. F. S. Mcßae, Mrs. Putnam Mrs. Thompson. Miss G. Wilson. Miss Armstrong, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. .* Rennell, Mrs. D. Reed and many others have been on the lawns. Personal. Mr. Lionel Abraham and his daughter, Miss Sybil Abraham, have returned from a Southern trip. Miss Mabel •Smith, who has been staying with relatives for some months in Wellington, has returned to Palmerston. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Smith, are expected to return from a trip to England on the 22nd inst. Mr. Guy Reed, of the local staff of the Bank of N.Z., has been transferred to Taihape. Before leaving he was presented with a silver-mounted, pocketbook by the bank staff and a silver

cigarette ease by members of the Palmerston North Tennis Club. Miss Porter has returned from a short stay in Wellington. Miss Smallbone, who has spent some months with her sister, Mrs. Barnieoat, Union Bank, has returned to her home in Wellington.
