August 13. A Farewell Tea. On Thursday Mrs. Colin Campbell gave a farewell tea in honour of Mrs. Holderness, of Hastings, who has been staying in Wanganui with her sister, Mrs. Pattie Izett. Amongst those present were: Mis. Krull, Mrs. and Miss Moore, Mrs. and Miss Spenser, Mrs. Izett, Mrs. Holderness, Mrs. G. Saunders, Mrs. Hewitt, Mrs. Barnicoat, Mrs. Paterson, Mrs. Harold, Mrs. Hutton, Mrs. Sargeant, and others.

Bridge Party. On Friday evening Mrs. John Stevenson gave a bridge party in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Carr, of Dunedin, who are staying with her. There were four tables and the prizes were won by Mrs. D’Arcy and Mr. Fletcher. Amongst the players were Mr. Gordon, Miss Gresson, Mr. and Mrs. D’Arcy, Mrs. Sarjeant, Mrs Brettargh. The Theatre. Mr. J. C. Williamson’s company opened in the Opera House last week for three nights, the pieces performed being “Sweet Kitty Bellairs” and “Sweet Nell or Old Drury.” There were very large and appreciative audiences. Amongst those I noticed at the different performances were: Mrs. R. Jackson, in a black chiffon taffetas gown with black insertion on her corsage; Mrs. Harvey (Waverly), pale grey crepe de chine frock with chiffon the same shade on decollete and sleeves, and shoulder scarf of chiffon ; Mrs. Chamberlain, blaek silk with lace on her corsage; Mi-s Brewer wore a cream silk frock embroidered in floral design and pretty light cloth opera coat; Mrs. Dove, cream silk toilette with motifs of lace on her corsage, and long cream opera coat with ermine collar and revers, the sleeves having a touch of black satin; Miss Maling, cream silk grey cloth opera coat with feather trimming; Miss M. Allison wore a pretty pale pink frock with the ninon folded over her corsage and a chou of the same at the side; Miss R. Jones, turquoise blue silk frock made with square-cut yoke and bands of black velvet; Miss Gifford, black silk with lace, white opera coat; Miss Knapp, white silk with the corsage prettily trimmed with wide bands of silk insertion; Mrs. C. Jones, black silk with yoke of cream silk veiled in blaek lace; Mrs. M. Jones, black silk gown with fine insertion; Mrs. Lomas wore cream net, blouse with ruffle of chiffon and lace swathed' in black satin, blaek silk skirt; Mrs. J. The weather was glorious for the monthly bogey golf match, played on the Belmont links on Wednesday. In Class A., Mrs. Izard Ist, Miss Stanford 2nd; Class 8., Miss C. Bates Ist, Mrs. Howarth and Miss E. Anderson tied for 2nd place. In the final championship, as Miss Bates was unable to play Miss Cowper won by default. In the final of Class B. championship between Miss Alix Cowper and Miss C. Anderson, the former was victorious. Mrs. Good and Miss Moore provided afternoon tea. Amongst those present were: Mrs. Harold, Mrs. and Miss Moore. Mr and Mrs Carr, of Dunedin, have been spending a few days in Wanganui. They were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Stevenson. Mr. Gonville Saunders, of Wanganui, went to Wellington this week to see his brother, Mr. Imlay Saunders, off by the Athenic. Mr. Holderness, of Hastings, who has been staying with relations in Wanganui, has returned to her home. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, of the Point, Canterbury, who have been staying in Wanganui with Mrs. Barnicoat, have returned to the South Island. Mr. and Mrs. Hutton, of Wanganui, have returned from their visit to Napier. Mrs. Wall, of Wanganui, is staying in Wellington with her sister, Mrs. Eric Riddiford.
