Thursday, the second day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s Winter Meeting, was equally as pleasant as the first, and most of the ladies had donned fresh costumes for the occasion. Lady Price wore a coat and skirt of brown petrol, hat with emerald wings; Miss Meinerztgen, mole costume, mole and white hat; Mrs. Jack Bednusb, brown costume, pretty brown hat with brown and pastel blue wings; Mrs. Newbigen, violet cloth braided, Merry Widow hat of white, with shaded blooms from palest lavender to deep purple; Mrs. Williamson, green striped braided costume, large mole hat trimmed with violets; Miss Mason, navy costume, mole

hat; .V. . FI. Russel, long green coat, mole and tangerine hat; Misa Williams, hazel tweed with green marabout toque; Miss —. Williams, brown costurns and hat; Miss Russel, grey, with lovely heliotrope and violet hat; Mrs. Barcroft wore a very becoming wedgewood coat and skirt, large black hat; Mrs. Tippling, tailor-made green frock, green and brown hat; Mrs. A. Lane, neatly fitting tailor-made eostuine of navy blue, hat to match; Mrs. Murray, biown coat and skirt, brown hat and brown bear furs; Mts. Macdoneff, navy costume, black Merry Widow hat; Mrs. Malcolm Brodie, petrol coat and' skirt, biown fur toque; Mrs. Nantes (Napier) locked exceedingly handsome in a neatly fitting black braided coat and skirt, very becoming toque of forest green swathed with silk and black wings; Mrs. Ormond, violet cloth costume, blaek vest, large black hat; Mrs. Dougias looked sweetly pretty in a heliotrope gown, with hat to match; Mrs. Douglas was also wearing the lovely diamond and ruby bracelet, and the diamond and emerald necklet which Mr. Douglas’ horse had won on the two consecutive days; Miss Fitzroy, brown eootume, brown and tangerine hat; Mrs. Tosswill, navy coat and skirt, and. a natural coloured marabout busby hat with peaeoek feathers; Miss Seale (Napier) looked very stylish in a blaek tailor-made, black hat with white wings; Miss Cuthbert (Christchurch), brown and cream, hat to match; Mrs. Stewart, champagne coloured frock, pretty brown hat; Mrs. Reid, grey tailor-made costume, grey hat, grey feather ruffle. The Winter meeting was held on Wednesday, 23 rd. The day was beautifully fine, and many of the Hastings people went out to the races. The Hastings ladies present were: —Mra. Ormand, violet cloth, braided with a darker shade, large black hat with white roses; Mrs. Wenley, a becoming mole costume trimmed with mole velvet, mole hat; Mrs. Douglas was wearing a costume and hat in fuchsia glades; Mrs. Hassal, bronze tweed, drab cloth trimmings, pretty hat Swathed with brown; Mrs. Price, blue and blaek striped tweed, mole and turquoise hat, white furs; Miss Russel, violet coat ami skirt, violet ospreyed hat; Mrs. Chas. Scott, • a tailor-made fuchsia diagonal cloth, faced with cream satin, and fuchsia velvet plumed toque; Miss Evans looked particularly smart in a pastel blue striped costume, marmot furs and a pretty black hat swathed and winged in pastel blue; Mrs. Tosswill, reseda green gown, smart blaek plumed and jetted velvet bat lined with cream; Miss E. Williams, brown etoak, blue and sable toque; Mrs. Rathbone (Waiapawa), mole costume, hat to match; Mrs. Stronach, mole costume, champagne coloured straw hat swathed with black; Mrs. Newbigen, saxe blue cloth gown, lace trimmings; white fur busby hat; Mrs. Macdonnell, navy costume, mole hat with quills; Mrs. Reid, brown and saxe blue costume, and brown hat; Mrs. Watt, navy costume, violet liat; Miss Drury, elderberry tailor-made, draped with blaek, elderberry velvet hat; Miss Mason, brown costume, mole hat, pink poppies; Mias Austin was wearing a violet frock, aatia bodice, pretty quaint quaker hat of violet satin, with white lace trimmings; Mrs. Stratton, violet braided coatee and skirt, Merry Widow hat, banked with heliotrope and lavender roses in various tints; Mrs. A. L. D. Fraser looked: stylish in a navy coat and skirt braided with blaek, a becoming black winged hat. Personal. Mr. and Miss Burn (Dunedin) are visiting Hastings. Miss Cuthbert (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs. Jack Beamish. Miss Seale (Napier) is also visiting Mrs. Beamish. Mrs. Gregorie has returned from Wanganui. Miss Luekie is visiting Wellington. Mrs. J. Miller aud children are at Ft ilding. Mr and Mrs Beamish and their little girl have returned from their visit to Christchurch. SHEBA.
