Dear Bee, October 2X There has been very little Social news to record lately. Everyone seems to be too busy "spring cleaning’’ to think of entertaining. We arc very proud of our local band's success at the Band Contest held at Hamilton recently, in which they won two prizes, one being X'3o in value, and a gold medal for the conductor, and silver medals for the rest of the band, and the other prize being medals also. A meeting was held in the Alexandra Hall on Wednesday evening to consider a proposal to tender a SOCIAL TO THE TOWN BAND in honour of their successes. There was a good attendance, a number of ladies being present. The "Major presided. It was decided to hold a social on the 18th November. The programme will consist of musical items, supper, and a danee. It was also decided that the team of the Waikato D. Squadron No. 3 Mounted Rifles, who won the Challenge Shield, together with the officers of. the corps, should be included in the list of guests to the social. The annual meeting of the CAMBRIDGE LAWN TENNIS CLUB was held on Wednesday evening, when the following officers were elected for the coining season: —President, Mr’. L. Isherwood; vice-presidents, Dr. Edmonds, Messrs. E. B. Cox, and G. Court; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. P. Stone: committee, Messrs. A. H. NieoH, J. W. Ransom, J. Cox, G. Simpson, and A. B. Crickett. Two new courts have been laid out, so that there will be now four courts to play on. 54 new members were elected. The opening flay will he as usual on the ttth November, when they open in conjunction with the Bowling Club. THE ANNUAL MEETING-OF THE CAMBRIDGE CRICKET CLUB was held on Tuesday evening, when 1 there was a fair attendance. Mr. G. Court occupied the chair. The following officers were elected:—Patron: Mr. W. H. Herries, M.P.; president: The Mayor (Mr. W. F. Buckland); vicepresidents: Dr. Roberts, Mr. E. J. Wilkinson, Revs. Gow and Beck; hon. secretary and treasurer: Mr. J. Conder. Mr. Ransom, BA., was elected captain, and Mr. G. Heath vice-captain. It was decided to open the season next Wednesday with a match: Married v.- Single.

A challenge from the Auckland Cricket Chib for a match on ttor 9th November was accepted. GObF.

In the playoff yesterday of monthly medal winners, the trophy >vas won by E. .1. Wilkinson. The Monthly Medal for Ladies for October, A. Oracle, resulted: 1. Miss P. Ferguson; 2, Airs. Edmunds; 3, Miss Willis; 4, Miss London. B. tirade. —1, Miss Gavey : 2, Miss Pickering; 3, Miss B. Taylor; 4, Miss G. Roberts. 'J'he driving ami approaching competitions for tirade A players were won by Airs Edmunds, with Aliss Willis second. Airs McDermott being- first among the B Grade players. The driving competition for B Grade players was won by Mis? N. Pickering. Ou Saturday some members of the Hamilton Golf Club journeyed to Cambridge to play our dub. The weather was perfect, and there was a large gathering of players and spectators. The Hamilton Club were represented by the following ladies: Mrs Seapit, Misses Alitehell (2), Holloway, Grahame, and Hol•den; men: Messrs Gillies, Sellars, Swaribrick, Hume, Shand. Worsley. The Cambridge team were re-presented by:—■ •Ladies: Mrs Edmunds, Misses Willis (2), •Landon. Brooks and G. Roberts; men: Messrs P. Lawrence, E. J. Wilkinson, B. (‘ouper, N. R. Fa mail, E. Caddy and Dr. Itoberts. The Cambridge ladies won ali their matches, and the Hamilton men won all theirs. Afternoon tea was provided by the lady members of the club. Lawrence o f Auckland, are at present staying nt the Masonic Hotel for the benefit of the former’* health. Aliss Elsie Runciman. of Auckland, roiiuhed home on Monday, after visiting Airs Wells, of Oakleigh, Cambridge. Airs 11. Price has let her house at Cambridge for 12 months to Mr and Mrs W’. Scott of Epsom. She intends to travel south and visit relations. Afrs (Dr.) Roberts, of f ambridge, has returned home from Auckland, .where she was visiting Mrs .1. C. Mackay, of Devon port. On Thursday Mrs A. J. Edmunds gave a small but enjoyable luncheon party, amongst those present being Mrs I*. Laurence'' (of Auckland) and Mrs Torrence (of Te Aroha). Air W. W right, of Auckland, a former resident of -Cambridge, is at present risking his daughter, Mrs A. If. Nicoll. He intends to remain over the opening of (bowls on the 9th November, he having •heen (he promoter of bowls in Cambridge, lind lakes a great interest in the club.
