Dear Bee, July 10. ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFULPRIVATE DANCES ever held in Gisborne took place last night (Thursday) at Mrs. F. B. Barker’s residence, “Te Hapara.” Everything that could possibly add to the en-

joymeut of the guests was thought of and carried out by host and very charming hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Barker received their guests in the entrance hall, the hostess looking extremely pretty in a dainty gown of white chiffon glace, veiled in fine Spanish lace of soft cream colour, the bodice and skirt being finished with trellis work trimming of narrow pink velvet, white ospreys in the hair; Mrs. Barker, sen., wore a rich grey satin gown, trimmed with a paler grey passementerie; Miss Barker, pale blue silk and lace; Miss E. Barker, pale blue chiffon glace, trimmed lace insertion; Miss L. Barker, cream chiffon glace, the folds of bodice and skirt being caught up with shaded pink roses; Miss F. Mrs. Ensor (Canterbury) is at present visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. Humphreys (Poverty Bay). Mrs. Boulnois (Christchurch) is staying with Mrs. A. Seymour, of Gisborne, Miss Schumacher (Christchurch) is visiting her brother, Dr. Schumacher (Gisborne). Mrs. Palmer, of Whatatutu, Gisborne, returned from Christchurch on Wednesday morning. Mrs. Palmer has been visiting relations in Canterbury.
