Many very dainty costumes were worn, and the grand-stand looked like a gigantic flower show when one glanced back and saw all the pretty flower-wreathed summer hats. Amongst the very large crowd it was difficult to see everybody. Those I noticed were Mrs. Mackay in a green cloth eustume with velvet of a darker shade, cream lace and silk vest, green velvet hat with long ostrich feathers; Airs. S. Gordon, black silk muslin gown with white embroidered spots, bands of cream insertion on the skirt, fancy straw hat with crimson and pink shaded roses and foliage; Miss Gresson, cream serge costume, cream crinoline straw hat with black and white ostrich feathers; Mrs. Wilford, black cloth coat and skirt, with collar revers and cuffs of white cloth embroidered in black fancy braid, black crinoline straw hat with long black feathers waving over the back; Miss Wilford, while embroidered linen frock, pretty coarse green straw hat with wreath of heliotrope and pale pink roses and foliage; Airs.
