THE FORMAL OPENING OF THE SEASON OF THE WEST END TENNIS CLUB took place on Saturday last, and there was a large attendance of members and friends. Afternoon tea was provided by a ladies’ committee, table decorations being masses of yellow flowers, very artistically arranged. The afternoon took the form of a book tea, which caused much excitement and merriment. The first prize, a dainty bronze vase, was won by Mrs. H. Ward, Miss Ina Lewis (Auckland) receiving a prize for the most original, a very pretty sandal-wool cardcase. A most recherche afternoon tea was served in tire dining-room. Specimen vases of pale yellow daisies, artistically arranged, composed the floral table decorations.
