THE FORMAL OPENING OF THE SEASON OF THE WEST END TENNIS CLUB took place on Saturday last, and there was a large attendance of members and friends. Afternoon tea was provided by a ladies’ committee, table decorations being masses of yellow flowers, very artistically arranged. Among those present were: Mrs. William Bayly, rich black costume relieved with white; Miss C. Bayly was much admired in a dainty white embroidered frock, sash of pale pink and blue floral ribbon, white and black hat with pale pink roses on bandeau; Mrs. J. Noble (Hamilton), stylish grey and white striped costume, kimono bodice with cream lace vest, pale blue and black hat trimmed with pink roses, white feather boa; Mrs. W. Wilson, pale green flecked tweed Eton costume, cream silk vest, moss-green hat relieved with pink roses; Mrs. Martin, pale grey costume, pink roses in hat; Miss Thomson, white embroidered muslin, moss-green hat trimmed with pink rc-ses; Mrs. Blundell, holland costume, cornflower blue hat; Mrs. Glasgow looked charming in white embroidered muslin, rose-pink floral ribboned belt, white tulle hat trimmed with black velvet bows and pink roses; Miss D. AN “AT HOME” was given on Friday by Mrs. William Bayly, in honour of her daughter, Mrs. dim Noble, of Hamilton, who is staying with her. The afternoon took the form of a book tea, which caused much excitement and merriment. The first prize, a dainty bronze vase, was won by Mrs. H. Ward, Miss Ina Lewis (Auckland) receiving a prize for the most original, a very pretty sandal-wool cardcase. A most recherche afternoon tea was served in tire dining-room. Specimen vases of pale yellow daisies, artistically arranged, composed the floral table decorations. Mrs. Bayly received her guests in a very handsome black silk taffeta, kimono bodice over a dainty blouse of cream point d’esprit and Valenciennes lace; Miss C. Bayly, pretty white embroidered muslin; floral blue ribboned kimono shoulder strap and belt ; Mrs, Jim Noble, charming pale blue chiffon taffetas, with cream lace vest and sleeves; Mrs. F.
