Dear Bee,- October 27. Although this is the fag end of the season we have had quite A GAY WEEK. The races brought, a number of people into tow u. Air 11. D. Bell and Airs Pearce both had large house parties for the race week at Lowry Bay, where picnics, fishing excursions, bridge parties, and dances were the order of the day. Airs Harold Johnston acted as hostess for her father. Mr 11. I). Bell, ami their party- included Air ami Mrs W. IL Ix-vin ( Rangitikei), Mr and Mrs Barton (Fentlierston). Mr and Airs Holmes (Masterton), Air and Mrs K. Dunean. Misses Stead (Christehureh), and Hislop. Messrs Alurray ami Higginson. I nfoi t uuately both raw? days were very disagreeable, ami the number of ladies present was small. AIRS. PROISE'S “AT HOME” in honour of Mr and Mrs Brough and Miss Temple, was particularly pleasant. Everyone was so glad to welcome them back and sec them looking so well. Mrs Brough is as charming as ever, ami it is good news to hear that we arc once more to sic her on the stage when ••Niobe” is revived. The drawing-room was a bower of Howers, mostly azaleas in various colours. The tea-table was effectively done with crimson rhododendrons, whilst bowls of lilac were placed about the hall. The house was prettily decorated with a. profusion of flowers, including a number of early roses. The supper table looked lovely with its decoration of orange and crimson azaleas, interspersed with feathery foliage. Miss Johnstone wore a handsome grey brocade, finished off with lace, and her ornaments were diamonds. Some of those present were the Hon. Kathleen Plunket, Dr. and Mrs Levin, Mesdames Grace, Turnbull, Larnach, Harold Johnston, Dunean. Pearce, Burnes, Misses Doris Johnston, Fitzgerald (2), Brandon, Loughnau, Coleridge. Stead (Christchurch), Harcourt, Duncan, Fell, and Johnston, General Babington, Captain Campbell, Captain Braithwaite, Sir Kenneth Douglas, Messrs Higginson, Johnstou, Murray, Tripp, Grace, George, Pearce, Denniston and Williams. MI'S ESTELLE BEERE’S AFTERNOON was quite a revelation as to what can bo done by children in dancing. From mere babies upward all seemed perfect, and to revel in their work. Lady Plum kefs children are pupils of Miss Beere’s, and took part in the dance. Among those present were His Excellency the Governor. Lady Plunket, and the Hon. Kathleen Plunket, who were accom;pan,icd by MJrs Wallis and Captain Braithwaite, Mrs and Miss Seddon. Lady Ward and Miss Ward, Mr and Mrs Harold Johnston, Mesdames Brandon, >Sprott, Perry. A SMALL DANCE given by Mrs Webster last week was much enjoyed by all. present.
