ROTORUA.
Dear Bee, August 21. On Wednesday, the 16th in=t., a farewell social was tendered to Miss Harris in St. Luke’s Schoolroom. For the past live years Miss Harris has been a most energetic worker in St. Luke’s Sundayschool and in the parish, and to the regret of all her friends and acquiintanves she leaves the district at the end of the month. Unfortunately, the night chosen proved very wet, and as there had hern heavy rain for twenty-four hours the streets were covered with water. Notwithstanding this, quite a number of people turned out to do Miss Harris honour. During the early part of the evening several musical items were rendered by different members of the church, ami games were arranged for the Sunday-school children, of whom a few were present. Before supper the Vicar of St. Luke's (the Rev. C. A. Tisdalll announced that he had a pleasant duty to perform, and after a very eulogistic speech he presented AL-s Harris, on behalf of the parishioners anil Sun-day-school children, with a quaintly prettv brooch in the form of a orescent, studded with cut greenstone and pearls, and also a very useful little writing case; later on hi* said he hoped to forward to Miss Harris a revised version of the Bible. Miss Harris, who appeared much surprised, expressed her gratification and 1 hanks for Mr Tindall's kind words and for the presents, which “she was sure she had in no way merited.” Refreshments were handed round later in the evening, and then “musical chairs” held the Hour for some little time. The evening was brought to a close by all joining hands and singing “Auld Lang * Syne.*' Someone began “For She's a Jolly Good Fellow,” and this was enthusiast ically taken up, and concluded with three cheers for Miss Harris.
