Airs Bowen was wearing a most becoming costume of cornflower blue cloth, and a blue toque to match trimmed with yellow poppies; Mrs Smith wore grey relieved with white silk, large grey hat with white wings; Airs G. P. At a concert given at the (Gaiety Theatre on the 10th inst.. by the X a pier Harmonic Society, Mendelssohn's oratorio, ‘’St. Paul,” was produced for Ihe first time in Napier, ami was enthusiastically received. The choruses were admirably sung, ami the solos were given with great expression by Miss Tanner, Mrs Bilton, Mr 11. King, and Air Blackman. The soprano solo. “Ananias. Arise,” was sung with great success by Miss Tanner. The choir was under the able direction of Mr .1. Chadwick. I'he pianoforte accompaniments were admirably played by Miss B. Chadwick. Amongst those in the audience were Mesdames Tanner, Stedman. Antill. Cornford, Bodie, McLean, Martin, Afoore. Henley, Lewin, Headley, Misses Williams, Kennedy. Rutherford, Todd. Large, Hovell, Goldsmith, etc.
