HAWERA.
Dear Bee, May 6. The opening meet of the Northern division of the Egniunt-Wanganui Hunt Club, took place on Mr A. Hustle’s property. "Mokaka..” Inaha, last Wednesday afternoon, and was most successful. It being such good weather, quite a large number of followers were present. and the land, which is very suitable for hunting over, fully helped to make the hunt the success it was. Mr Hastie was indefatigable in his efforts to entertain his guests, and extended open - handed hospitality to all. Amongst those following were Misses Brigg*. White. Mitchell, Messrs. E. R. Hastie (Master of the Hounds), B. (Jordon (Huntsman), A. J- Hastie. C. Jackson. Schwartz, Mitchell. Preparations are in full swing for the hospital ball, which is next Friday week. Extra tickets have had to be printed, owing to most of the others having been sold, 'i’his. I think, is a splendid sign, ami clearly shows that the ball should be a great success.
The Indies’ Hockey Club have been putting in good practice lately, as the New Plymouth team has challenged Hawera, and the match is to be played in llawera next Saturday, the New Plymouth team coming down the night before. 'l’he men’s team Was most successful during its tour at Easter time. The game played in Wellington ended in a draw, and Hawera beat the Palmerston North team. Naturally we were all very pleased, as the Hawera team has never yet been beaten, and they have played against some firstclass teams.
