Christie and others. . - . , THE WANGANUI HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY held their Annual Show in the Drill Hall on Wednesday and Thursday. The display of flowere, fruit and vegetables
by local exhibitore -was good, and Mr *;haH. Goodson, of Hawera, sent a splendid collection of eaetus and dahlias, -s«hieh were much admired. Amongst those present 1 notised Mrs Alexander 5n a dainty frock of pale shaded heliotrope flowered muslin, gauged skirt, with lace and insertion on bodiee, full gauged sleeves to the elbow with frill, early WHsdoriaji hat of gauged chiffon, white .•strich feathers and spray of pale heliotrope flowers; Mrs McDonnell (Wellington), black silk gown, the bodice gauged, champagne laee collar embroidered in green and pink silk, smart black and white toque; Mrs Marie, black voile, the bodice trimmed with cream laee, vest to match, black and white fancy straw hat, with white osprey at the side; Mrs JFitzherbert wore a becoming pale grey frock, relieved with pink, black straw hat with pink flowers in itj Mrs H. Sarjeant, tucked champagne voile, yoke and collar of lace, and wide cuffs of the same embroidered in pink and blue silk, smart black and white hat; Mrs H. Peake, black silk costume, bonnet to match; Mrs Blundell, black muslin, with embroidered white spot over white silk, wide band of Hack medallion insertion round the tops of gauged flounce, yoke of gauged white chiffon edged with frill of black sun ray pleated chillon, smart lai of blaek gauged chiffon, with high crown, blaek ostrich, tips; Mrs Morrison j| Auckland), pale grey voile gown trimmed with blaek velvet ribbon, vest of cream embroidered chiffon, full sleeves stripped with blaek velvet bows, and under sleeves of cream embroidered elution; Mrs Moore, navy blue cloth coat »nd skirt, cream vest, black and white hat; Miss Moore wore a black crepe de chine frock, the skirt with gauged hip yoke and deep flounce, fine lace yoke of champagne shade, mushroom straw hat with pale blue silk ribbon ruche. There were also present. Mesdames Mason, Jones, Palmer, Mrs and Miss Dodgshun, Mrs and Miss DoggMrs "Wood, Miss Baker, Mr and Miss Izard, Mr and Mrs Babbage, Mr and Mrs C, Goodson (Hawera), Mr and Mrs Treadwell, Mrs and Miss Gibbms, Mrs and Miss Taylor, Mrs and Miss Hardcastle, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs and Miss Anderson, Mrs and Miss Empson, Miss Mason, Mrs Hawke, Mt and Mrs All-son, and many wore. Friday Mrs Fairburn gave A SMALL AFTEBNOON TEA for Mrs Morrison, of Auckland. Otir hostess received in a black tucked voile skirt, salmon pink silk blouse, tucked end banded with wide champagne insertion, blaek satin sash. Amongst those present were Mesdames Morrison, Greenwood, Blundell, Moore Krull, A. Lewis. Hogg, Humphreys, Misses \Vitehell, Izard, Hogg, and others. - On Saturday AN ENJOYABLE PICNIC was given in the oil-launch up the Wanganui river, Amongst those present were Mesdames Anderson, McKean, Mieses Anderson, Cresson, Bodgsbun, -Campbell, Holdship (Sydney), Messrs Silk, Anderson, Dodgshun, Armour, Lomas, and others. THE BORINA BUCKMANS CONCERT COMPANY performed at the Opera House on Wednesday evening. The concerted merited a much larger share of patronage than it received, but despite the depressing effect of a poor house the items were delightfully rendered. Miss Buekmann, the talented N.Z. songstress, was associated with Mr Frank Graham (tenor) and Miss Clarice Buekmann, a rising young vocalist, and the instrumental portion of the programme was supplied by Mr MeLean, who proved himself a master of the ’cello. Mr Towsey played the accompaniments in a most sympathetic manner. Amongst the an .dienee were Mr and Mrs Foster, Mrs and Miss Alexander, Mr and Mrs Fairburn, Misses Towsey, Newcomb:-, Jones, Cowper, Rebertson, McLeod, Campbell, Trainor, Messis Cohen, Peek, Anderson, Jones, Foreman, Cameron (Australia), and others.
