NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, March 13. A very pleasant I PROMENADE CONCERT was held in the Drill Hall last Thursday evening, for the purpose of raising funds for the maintenance of a Maori girl from this district in the Victoria College (Auckland). The hall was gaily decorated with bunting. Along the side walls stalls were arranged, from the demurc-looking plain work stall to the appetising sweets stall. The committee included Mesrlames Cock (president), W. Bullot, Dockrill, Fleetwood, Freelh, IL Jury, Newman, MeKellar. E. M. Smith. W. 11. Skinner, Misses Nicholls, Smith (2). Tester. The following were the stallholders: Fancy, Mesdames Paton, 8. Percy Smith, llawken; sweets, Misses Skinner (2), Simpson, Martlews; produce, Mrs Hutlot, Miss Curtis; ice cream, Mrs E. M. •Smith, Miss Nichols. Character reading was done by Madame Yosef. The cardroom was managed by Mrs McKellar. Miss Smith and Miss Testa. The supper was under the management- ot Mesdames R. Cock. Doekrill, add R. Jury. Among those present f noticed: Mrs Kerr, Miss M. Kerr, Mrs Whitcombe (Christchurch), Misses Webster (3), Misses Fookes (2), Miss Knight, Aliases Flee t wood (2). Miss M. Gabb. Miss W. Thomson. Mrs Fraser, Mrs Cooke, Miss J. Fraser, Misses Bedford (2), Miss A. Brewster, Miss Knot, Mrs •Mac Diarmid Miss' Goldwater. Mrs Alexander gave A MOST ENJOYABLE DANCE at her beautiful residence in Vivianstreet in honour of her guest. Miss Tr'egear, of Wellington. The drawingroom' was arranged for dancing, and the floor was in perfect order. The lovely grounds were lighted up with Chinese lanterns.and presented quite the appearance of a fairyland, the calmness and beauty of the night enabling promenaders to thoroughly enjoy and appreciate its charm. Supper was set out in the diningroom. The tables were daintily decorated with roses and daisies. The music was supplied by McKinnon Bain's orchestra, and was therefore perfect, Mrs Alexander received, her guests In black brocade, trimmed with beautiful old lace. Miss Tregear (Wellington) wore green and cream delaine, trimmed with lace and insertion; Miss D. •Whitcombe (debutante) looked, charming in a dainty white frilled book-mus-lin, finished with chiffon and lace; Miss i Govett. lovely gauged white chiffon,

trimmed with satin ribbon; Mis, D. Govett. black net; Miss Fookes, black frilled net, relieved with' Scarlet rosea on corsage; Miss E. Hainer ton, white silk, trimmed with satin striped cbiffbn. yellow flowers on decolletage; Mina I*. Graham (Hamilton) looked well in white silk, trimmed with lace insertion; Miks Mac Diarmid, white silk; Miss W. George, pretly pink silk, veiled; in white net; Miss N. Capel, yellow silk, corsage trimmed with clusters of violets; Miss M. Capel, white Brnssefa net, trimmed with bands-of satin Tibbon, yellow roses aon shoulder; Mis* Roy, blue gauged crepe de chine, trimmed with satin ribbon; Miss Monica Govett looked charming in pearl grey accordion-pleated silk voile; Miss Webster, blue silk, trimmed with white lace; 1 Miss L. Webster, white silk; Miss' Holdsworth, a dainty shade of heliotrope brocade, with chiffon frills; Alisa G. Holdsworth looked well in pink silk and cream, lace; Miss C. Bavly, lovely white silk, with clusters of wallflowers, Pompadour belt; Miss E. Hursthouse (Wellington), handsome black silk, with cream lace collar;. Miss O. King, eream gauged nun’s veiling; Miss' J. Fraser, pale pink silk, pink roses iu hair; Miss A. Hoskin, dainty eream ac-cordion-pleated voile, trimmed with chiffon.
