Dear Bee, October 14. IIIK NAPIER ROWING CLGB had a cold and windy afternoon for the opening of their season lasi Saturday. The prizes were presented to the successful competitors by Miss .McLernon, 1 l;c daughter of the club’s president. The chief interest was centred in the ladies’ race, the crews for which comprised Misses B. Hill (stroke) and J. Miller (bow), Miss McLernon and Mrs Baxter, .Miss Dulcie Kennedy and Ethel Simpson. Misses I). Simpson and 51. •.Miller, Misses M. Bishop and M. Newman. Misses ’M. Shirley and Patterson, Misses E. and K. Macdonald, Misses J. i ampbell and Naiusch. Misses Edwards and Sheath, Misses M. t’ampbell and M. Anderson. The race was won by Misses E. Simpson and D. Kennedy, who beat Misses M. Campbell and M. Anderson •by about a foot. Amongst the spectators were: Mrs Stedman, who was •wearing a black cloth dress, a feather boa. and a red toque trimmed with poppies; Airs Brabant, in black; Miss

Hoadloy, dark green dress braided with black, and a toque to match; Mrs Hovel!, grey coat ami skirt ; Miss Hovell. navy blue cloth, vest of cream silk and lace, pink felt hat ; Mrs Goldsmith' cornliower blue frieze, toque of the same colour: .Miss Goldsmith; dark green dress (rimmed with narrow white braid and a large white felt hat; Miss McLernon. navy blue dress piped with white. 1 »l**rk hat; Mrs Baxter. grey frieze; Mis.s Williams was also in dark blue, and her toque was relieved witii red; Miss Kennedy, grey cloth costume; Air’ Sheath wore black. The weather was also unpropi I ions for the spring -meeting of the NAPIER PARK RACING CLUB. Tuesday morning was hot and close, but about noon heavy rain fell, which contiAnted throughout the day. On Wednesday it was wet all day. However. there was a largo contingent of visitors at the races on both drtys, amongst them being Mrs IL J. Smith, •who was beautifully dressed in while voile, and embroidered chiffon, large hat of black chiffon and feathers; Lady

Russell wore black; Mis* Russell, pretty dress of cream and pule blue; Mrs Antill, black silk voile, the bodice much trimmed with ecru lace, pale green chiffon hat with pink roses; Mrs Pbarazyn, pale grej dress; Mrs Stedman, grey and pink; Mrs J. I. Cato had a very dainty costume of pale grey voile, and u becoming hat to correspond; Miss Williams looked well in deep cream erepe de chine, ami a white chiffon hat adorned will roses; Mrs Hoadley was in black silk, toque to match, relieved with yellow flowers; Miss Louie Hoadley wore a dark blue dress trimmed with white lace, and a large picture hat; Mrs Fitzroy. black dress; Miss Fitzroy, blue tailor-made costume; Mrs T. C. Aloore, pale blue silk voile tastefully trimmed with narrow black velvet ribbon. and medallions of cream lace, large black hat; Airs McLean, cornflower blue frieze, with rovers of ecru lace, blue chiffon toque; .Miss Humphries, becoming white muslin gown, red floral toque; Ali<* Macfarlane looked exceedingly well in a dainty white dress, and a white chiffon hat; Miss Fanning, dark blue coat and skirt; Mrs Gordon, grey costume; Mrs VVestall, champagne-coloured voile, pale pink silk vest covered with ecru lace, white chip hat.
